5 Features You Would Like To See in Windows 9

Windows 9, which is also labeled as Threshold, is a new and upcoming Windows version by Microsoft and it is expected to hit the software market somewhere in 2015. The previous version of Microsoft Windows arrived back in 2012 and recorded numerous complaints about the unpopular disappearance of the Start button and the confusing Metro menu view. To fix the same, Microsoft released Windows 8.1, an OS update in the market that was carrying all the essential features and tools that can make an OS experience better. The company experienced a great downfall in sales due to Windows 8 flaws, but now the focus is on developing an OS that will re-establish their market image. Arrival of Windows 9 was announced at the ‘Tickets to the Build Developer’ conference 2014 held in San Francisco and is rumored to be released with the third update to the Windows 8.

Let us read about the top 5 features that every user would like to see in Windows 9:

1. Should run on a ‘Desktop-Only’ mode, by default

Metro UI and confusing dual-modes have irritated a lot of Windows users and have forced them to shift their preference from Windows to other OSes available in the market. Metro UI, charms menu, tiled interface, and many other features have alienated Windows users and this time it will require some strong efforts by the company to convince them to get back to the Windows. The new OS should be provided with an option to turn off the Metro UI and always run the device in Desktop-only mode. If rumors are to be believed, then the Windows 9 for mobile devices will ditch the desktop mode entirely, but users want the OS to be sold with the Metro view disabled, by default.

2. No fixes, no adjustments, all users need is the ‘Real Start Button’

Microsoft experimented with the Win 8 OS by removing the ‘Start’ button, which showcased great downfall in its sales and forced the company to bring ‘Start Screen’ back in Windows 8.1. Rumors stated that the ‘Start’ button would return with Windows 8.1 Update 2, but the sources revealed that it is postponed for the time till Windows 9 arrives. The new OS is expected to carry an all new ‘Start Menu’ that includes the classic layout of previous versions and a Metro panel with live tiles.

3. Added security against viruses, threats, and popular infections

Everyone knows that Windows is a prime target for viruses, while OS X and Linux aren’t as vulnerable as a Microsoft’s products are. The company regularly releases security patches, bug fixes, and updates to ensure that the OS doesn’t miss any malware thrown at it. For providing comprehensive protection against all security threats, the Windows 9 will be offered with an improved Intel’s McAfee software suite that is capable of restricting stubborn viruses and infections.

4. Enhanced battery life

As the requirement of portable devices has increased in the last few years significantly, Microsoft thought of adding a power-saving feature to its OS to save extra units for crucial tasks. Intel’s 2013 Hashwell chips featured enhanced battery life in Ultrabooks in the same way, this latest Windows version should incorporate features that can maximize processor idle time and minimize power consumption.

5. Recovery can now be done over-the-air

Apple was the first company to introduce this feature by allowing the user to recover or reinstall the system software, just by downloading a few files from the Internet. Microsoft may also incorporate this feature in Windows 9, to allow users to restore Windows by simply downloading files from the internet, in case of a PC malfunctioning. This feature will make it easier for users to recover Windows PCs without digging through BIOS boot settings, and plugging-in recovery USB.

The above mentioned features are some of the major changes that users as well as tech geeks wish to experience in Windows 9. Apart from these, the OS also needs to focus on providing support for native DVD playback, enabling Windows Store to deliver updates efficiently, and adding better support for Retina-quality displays. Featuring virtual desktops for enhanced and improved productivity can be the next step to deliver a seamless yet efficient experience by eradicating the requirement of installing third-party software.

Expecting too much now can be considered an overambitious expectation, but Microsoft is required to deliver an amazing product this time to save its market reputation and the customer base.
