7 Ways to Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes

It can be annoying to have to look in the mirror day or night and notice big, dark bulges underneath your eyes that make you look perennially tired and sick. If dark under eye circles bother you so much but you acknowledge that you haven’t really done much to improve how they appear, then you’ve come across the right post.

What could be causing you to have dark under eye circles?

Before you can even lock in on a strategy to get rid of your dark under eye circles, you must first identify what personal characteristics, practice or habit of yours could be causing them. There are some contributing factors you can do something about to improve how your eye bags look but, there are just some things you can’t change nor avoid.

Five factors that can be causing your dark circles to form:

1) Heredity. If every person or every other person in your family has similar dark circles then, you can safely conclude that your genes are the culprit. There isn’t much you can do about that but, you can certainly do something about other, non-hereditary factors that add up to the damage.
2) Age. Unfortunately, our body’s ability to regenerate and repair cells slows down with age. To make matters worse, collagen, which serves as the building block of new skin, is produced in lesser quantities as we get older.
3) Unhealthy lifestyle. Too much sodium in your diet and lack of regular physical activity can hamper healthy blood and oxygen circulation.
4) Lack of sufficient sleep. Constant lack of deep, sufficient sleep most especially when coupled with chronic stress can contribute to the pressure on blood vessels around your eyes that make them burst, leaking blood and other fluids under your eyes, making them bulge and become dark.
5) Recurring allergies. Your allergies can be causing your blood vessels to swell.

Seven ways you can kick out dark under eye circles

1) Change your diet. Make sure your diet supplies your body with sufficient amount of fluids to support proper circulation. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Boost your intake of foods rich in iron, folic acid, and Vitamins A, B, C, and E. Limit your intake of salty foods. Eliminate those salty chips from your diet.

2) Sleep well. It doesn’t matter whether you sleep for full eight hours or just for five hours each night. What matters more is that you develop a regular sleeping pattern. Close to bedtime, do things to help you quiet down your thoughts and your body like reading for fun, playing mind games or, listening to soft music, whatever helps you relax.

3) Take yoga classes. In fact, just about any physical activity will help you improve your blood and oxygen circulation. What’s important is that you regularly pump up your heart and challenge your body to perform in its limits regularly say, three to four times weekly.

4) Consider acupuncture. The goal of acupuncture is to balance a person’s ‘qi’ (chi). In acupuncture, those dark under eye circles of yours are not simply just beauty or skin issues but, are signs and symptoms of imbalance in your qi. Getting an acupuncture done on you will help improve your blood and oxygen circulation, and in acupuncture speak, improve the flow of energy throughout your body.

5) Eye cream or serum with active ingredients. Topical eye serums containing active ingredients like collagen, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and Co-Q10 can help boost skin cell repair to help surface younger, more radiant skin to replace your old, dark under eye skin.

6) Antihistamine. If you have allergies, discuss a treatment and prevention plan with your health advisor. Taking antihistamines will help prevent dark under eye circles from showing whenever you’re stricken with allergies.

7) Makeup. For a quick fix, makeup can do the trick to make your under eye circles vanish. Simply use a lighter tone of foundation or powder to hide your dark under eye circles.

Dark under eye circles could be more than just a beauty issue. Their appearance may signal health problems like vitamin deficiency or anemia. If they persist, consult your doctor.
