  • Cement-coated foams – The recently marketed window trim is the cement-coated foams. Here, a foam component, commonly known as synthetic stucco is coated with cement. This material can be easily installed since its lightweight. You also don’t need to worry about cracks and damages caused by natural elements since it is sturdy enough to withhold them.

Waterproofing and installation

It is best to waterproof the exterior window moldings first before installation. However, you can do it the other way around if it is more convenient. In terms of waterproofing, house paints are the widely used material. It’s cheap, long lasting and very efficient.

When installing window trims, it is done by creating a 45° angel from the top and bottom trims. For the other pieces, you can cut and place them in the remaining spaces also creating a 45° angle. Once it is properly installed, you have to caulk all cracks and nail holes including all miter joints. Most individuals install drip caps on top of the moldings. This will aid in preventing water related damages since it will shed off the water from the trim.
