If you enjoyed 30 Day Shred, here’s another great fitness DVD by Jillian Michaels: Extreme Shed and Shred. That’s the one with the pink cover.
It’s similar to 30 Day Shred, but instead 3 levels of the 3-2-1 circuit training, you get two 30 minute levels of the most effective martial arts / calisthenic movements. So far I’ve done Level 1, and it’s a lot of fun. In Extreme Shed and Shred, Jillian fine tunes the dos and don’ts of correct positioning.
You really do get a workout even though you don’t feel like you’re doing a lot of high impact movements. She combines Yoga, Brazilian Capoeira, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, traditional boxing movements and old fashioned-calisthenics to allow your body to burn fat in the the most effective manner possible.
Level 1 consists of a Warm-Up, 4 circuits with 2 sets each and a cool down. She then asks if you want to go on to level two. If you don’t you go on to the cool down.
In typical Jillian style, there are two helpers on either side of her, one for advanced level and the other for beginners.
One of the things I love about the fitness DVDs by JIllian is that they’re all done in simple and practical fashion. The DVD is about $8 on Amazon. You can do them at home when the weather is bad or good. So you always have the ability to get a good workout in. You will see results.
Which Is Better: 30 Day Shred or Extreme Shed and Shred
Both have their merits. If you’re not familiar with Jillian Michaels’s style and you need exercise techniques that are more by the numbers, 30 Day Shred is a great DVD to start with.
If you have bed knees, Extreme Shed and Shred will give you an excellent workout without excess jumping and high impact movements. Plus, you have the choice of continuing your 30 minute workout into a 60 minute workout. With 30 day Shred, each level is it’s own separate workout.
