Basic Knowledge About Managing Cholesterol

There are so many diseases which often lead to death in our communities today that could be prevented by eradicating and reducing of high cholesterol levels in the blood stream and also shunning other health risks for example smoking and alcohol abuse. Do you know that there are more than 200,000 millions of people all over the world who have been prescribed drugs by medical doctors in managing cholesterol? High cholesterol in the body is one of the factors that cause cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke.

One of the questions that linger in the minds of so many people when you talk about managing cholesterol is what is cholesterol in the first place? Cholesterol can be described as a white and powdery substance that is generally manufactured by your liver and some it comes directly from the kind of food that you feed on. Once formed in your body it is then transported via the arteries into different locations of the body because your body needs some of it. A lot of people understand about the dangers of high cholesterol in the blood but very few know about the importance of cholesterol in the body of a human being.

When too much fat is present in the blood stream it is converted by the body into what is known as LDL or bad cholesterol. The dangers of LDL is that it has the capacity to stick in the walls of your arteries an act that causes the arteries to be blocked and this in turn hampers the flow of blood in your system something that often than not is a major cause of heart diseases.

In managing cholesterol it is good to understand that other than bad diet and lack of enough exercises there are other factors that can cause an individual to have relatively high levels of cholesterol in their blood such as hereditary and genetically factors.
