Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special Edition – a Holiday Review

-

Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special Edition starring Paige O’Hara, Robby Benson, Angela Lansbury, Jerry Orbach, David Ogden Stiers, Bernadette Peters, and Tim Curry, is a delightful Disney movie that is sure to appeal to kids and their families. However, Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special Edition still manages to bypass the true meaning of Christmas in favor of more PC fare. For what it is — a Disney flick — Beauty and the Beast is colorful, musical and brings a worthwhile message of hope and love.

Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special Edition – a Holiday Review

The movie begins with Mrs. Potts (Angela Lansbury) telling another “tale as old as time” about a Christmas past in the days of Belle’s captivity when Belle (Paige O’Hara) and the Beast (Robby Benson) were just starting to become friends. That Christmas almost didn’t happen – thanks to Forte (Tim Curry), the scheming former court composer. Now a giant pipe organ determined to keep Belle and Beast apart forever, Forte sees Belle as a threat to his power over the Beast.

Belle is looking forward to Christmas only to discover the Beast has forbidden Christmas — the day his evil enchantment occurred. The Beast begins to consider the idea, but Forte turns him against the idea, and then sends Belle out into the deepest part of the forest to cut down a tree. Belle finds herself in mortal danger of drowning, but the Beast rescues her, only to lock her in the dungeon. Can Belle and the other inhabitants of the Castle save Christmas or will Forte and the Beast ruin it?

This move is full of songs, but some, especially a tediously long song by Forte, do not seem like they would have much appeal for kids. Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special Edition makes up for its musical tedium with beautiful visuals and enduring themes of hope, friendship and love. Bonus features include a behind the scenes featurette, Disney Sing-a-long mode, ‘As Long As There’s Christmas’ music video and much more! Beauty & The Beast: Belle’s Magical World Special Edition is a new Special Edition inspired by the original classic, Beauty and the Beast.
