Braava 380t Vs Mint 5200: Comparing the iRobot Braava and Mint Plus

Braava 380 or Mint 5200 – Which is Best for You?

This account will briefly compare the Braava 380t Vs Mint 5200 — but you should note that the 380t is essentially just a re-vamp from iRobot of the Mint Plus 5200, they are actually very similar robotic mopper & sweeper models. We will give a quick overview of each & then go on to highlight their subtle differences (with an appreciation of their respective price tags), so you can decide which is most suited to cleaning your hard floors.

Braava 380t Overview

Cleaning Technology & Navigation System

The Braava 380t is designed and engineered as a mopping & sweeping robot picking up dirt, cleaning grime and removing pet hair effectively from hard-surfaced flooring (e.g. tiles, laminate, wooden etc.). Basically, it saves you from having to clean your hard floor rooms by being an automatic sweeper & mopper.

With regards to the navigation system it utilizes a GPS mapping like device, named the NorthStar Series 2, allowing it map out the most efficient & effective cleaning path which comes with a set of cubes that can signal the 380t to perform room to room cleaning (where basically once its finished with cleaning one room, it will automatically go on to clean the next).

Battery Performance & Aspects

Fitted with an upgraded NiMH battery (2000 mAh), the 380t allows you ‘25% more cleaning time than previous models‘, specifically it will last for 4 hours dry mopping which is a coverage of 1000 sq. ft. and will run for 2.5 hours when damp mopping which is approximately 350 sq. ft. Moreover, it comes with a pro-clean system that acts to continually dispense a specialized cleaning solution into the damp microfiber cloths for a more effective clean & efficient removal of bacteria.

Dimensions: 9.6 x 8.5 x 3.1 inches | Weight: 4 lbs

Features, Specifications & Accessories

It also comes with Perfect-Edge technology which is basically just bristles & brushes that act to clean right along the side of walls & baseboards, reaching areas you might actually miss doing a manual clean. With regards to ‘what’s in the box?’ you get the actual 380t floor robot, NorthStar navigation cubes (two), multi-purpose cleaning pad & reservoir pad, turbo charge cradle & two sets of sweeping and mopping microfiber cloths.

Mint Plus 5200 Overview

Cleaning Technology & Navigation System

Bearing in mind the Mint 5200, is essentially the predecessor of the Braava 380t it still has the same cleaning objective, hence as you should expect they are somewhat similar. For instance, it is also installed with the NorthStar navigation system with cube (room) to cube (room) cleaning available — mapping out an efficient cleaning path whilst avoiding potential obstacles too. The Mint plus does also offer a quick cleaning mode though, where it doesn’t reach right to the edge of the perimeter, instead covering as much floor space in as shorter time as possible.

Battery Performance & Aspects

Dimensions: 8.5 x 9.6 x 3.1 inches | Weight: 6.8 lbs

The Mint plus from a single charge can cover 350 sq. ft. mopping and 800 sq. ft. dry sweeping from a single charge and takes roughly 4 hours for it be fully charged again. Like, the 380t though, the Mint 5200 does come with the pro-cleaning system & specialized pad for it to gradually dispense the cleaning solution on to your flooring for effective cleaning.

Features, Specifications & Accessories

Similarly, the 5200 comes with the same accessories etc. as the 380t i.e power adapter, manual instruction guide, cleaning cloths, NorthStar navigation cubes etc.

The Difference Between the Braava 380t and Mint 5200

As you have seen they are very similar, even in terms of design with them both being square & black (although the 380t slightly lighter & which actually also in turn makes it even quieter in operation). The 380t as seen does come with a greater run time (capable of an extra 200 sq. ft. of dry sweeping) & has the perfect edge cleaning technology (& will also have an updated & more intelligent version of the NorthStar system) than the Mint 5200.

Which Robot Mopper Should You Buy the 380t or Mint 5200?

Both being very similarly priced at around $300 (if you see, and with it being fair to say that the Braava 380t edges the Mint Plus 5200 (which is expected really) and hence it is the clearly the Braava model I’d advise you to go for.
