Breville BES840XL Vs BES860XL: Comparing the 840XL & 860XL

Breville BES840XL

Technology

The Breville BES840XL is powered by a 15-bar Italian pump and uses a 1600 watt thermocoil for heating water to optimize brewing and extraction of coffee. The machine uses pre-infusion to make the grounds wet and expand them a few seconds prior to brewing it with high pressure.

Aspects and Features

The coffee extracted by the BES840XL is high quality due to the low and consistent pressure that is applied to the grinds. The machine comes with a 61 ounce water tank with a handle which can also be removed for cleaning. Tamping control is very good owing to the 54mm portafilter made of stainless steel. The ground coffee is dried so that the coffee puck can be easily disposed off.

The stainless steel steam wand can be moved 360 degrees to accommodate a container of varying sizes to froth latte or cappuccino. Then the water temperature is automatically adjusted by a purge function after steaming is over so that it is ready for the next shot. It is also possible to use the machine for getting hot water that pours out through a spout next to the steam spout.

The front of the machine contains a pressure gauge that shows extraction pressure so that you can make adjustments quickly if you would like to change the amount of extraction. You can customize the shot volume or use the volumes that are preset in the machine. The drip tray can be removed easily for cleaning.

Additional Specifications

The dimensions of the machine are 10.2 x 12.5 x 13.2 inches and it weighs 17 pounds. When you purchase the BES840XL you will also get single as well as dual water filter baskets, stainless steel jug, scoop, cleaning tool and a water filter.
