Is there really a chemical free way to clean a down comforter? There are so many things to take care of in a house that you just never stop cleaning. The more you clean the more you feel you have to do. There are things you have to clean on a daily basis and others can wait for the spring cleaning. When you buy a down comforter, you plan to use it for years to come. Cleaning is probably not one of the first things you think about, however, it is important to consider that when buying your bed cover. If you’ve already purchased one, you might not have paid attention to the label that says, it should only be dry-cleaned. What if you want to find a chemical free way to clean you down comforter?

That will be the challenge for most people trying to find an eco-friendly way to wash their down comforter. That said, it is not impossible to achieve this if you are willing to take the time. The first issue is finding a washing machine that will be big enough in which you can put the comforter. If you don’t have one, you can take yours to the Laundromat where they have bigger machines. Another issue is finding an eco-friendly detergent. You can look for the Greenwash ball eco-friendly laundry that can be purchased for $12 at some stores. There is the NaturOli nuts soap that you can also use to clean your down comforter without chemicals and they cost about $50. Taking your comforter to the dry cleaners is probably the quickest way to get it done without much of a hassle. That said, they will be using chemicals to give it a good clean.

You can look into making your own laundry detergent and alter the recipe slightly to avoid all the chemicals that are normally used. When you make your own laundry soap, you control what goes into it.

After washing your comforter, you should aim to dry it in the sun. That will be better for the environment than using the dryer at the Laundromat. However, you need to make sure you are doing this during the summer months when you can get enough sun to completely dry your down comforter. There is also something important to bear in mind, washing your comforter before it become really dirty is the best way to avoid deep stains and possible allergies. Some people actually buy duvets for theirs as a way to protect it and avoid taking it to the Laundromat. You can easily take off the duvet and stick it into your smaller washing machine without a fuss. As you can see, there are some chemical free ways to clean a down comforter at home.
