Corneal transplant brochures

Corneal transplant brochures are small books that give more information about cornea transplants. These brochures can be electronic in form of e-books or print versions which are hard copy. The cornea is a clear tissue which covers the front of the eye. The cornea may get destroyed or diseased and therefore would need to be replaced. This is where a cornea transplant becomes necessary. When the cornea is affected, it does not function normally and makes it difficult for light to reach all sections of the eye as used to happen before it was affected. The result is that the vision of a person gets affected and impaired.

People with eye conditions

Individuals who experience problems with their eyes usually go through corneal transplant brochures to find out what information there may be in them which would help them deal with their conditions. Quite a good number of people have different allergies which affect their eyes. The allergies and infections of the eyes may make them itch, red and very painful. Many people also suffer from conjunctivitis which makes their eyes itch, get red and hurt them a lot. This happens when the conjunctiva in the eye gets affected and fails to function as it normally should.

Good corneal transplant brochures give one an idea of when a transplant is necessary and how the procedure is done. A corneal transplant is only necessary when the other treatment options have failed and the eye is not getting any better. Corneal transplants are possible because there are volunteer donors who give away their corneas. The corneas to be used are always extracted from people who have died but who agreed to their corneas being used to assist other people with problems with their eyes. Before transplanting any tissues, the corneas that have been extracted from dead people are usually screened to check for any diseases it may have.

The procedure

When you read through corneal transplant brochures, you will learn that one is not supposed to eat eight hours before the operation. One is take to a theatre and put under anesthesia. A surgeon then carefully removes the diseased or scarred cornea and replaces it with the new one. The new cornea is sewed in place and heals slowly. Once the operation has been done, one is allowed to go back home to continue with their normal lives. It may take up to two years before one’s sight fully returns.

One would also learn from the corneal transplant brochures that once the operation has been done, a doctor prescribes an eye drop to prevent the eyes from drying up. One would also be asked not to rub their eyes so that the new cornea attaches itself well and does not get torn. It will also be recommended that one wears sun glasses when walking outside to prevent the eyes from being affected by the excessive light. One would also need to visit a doctor from time to time to get the eyes checked. This would safeguard against any complications going unchecked.
