'Dancing with the Stars' Barbie dolls – Product Review

A pop culture phenomena took America by storm when ‘Dancing with the Stars’ (DWTS) premiered in the summer of 2005. Dancing with the Stars has made household names out of judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba an Bruno Tonioli. DWTS introduced us to Mark Ballas, Cheryl Burke, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, Julianne Hough, Kym Johnson, Chelsie Hightower, Derek Hough, Karina Smirnoff, Anna Trebunskaya, Lacey Schwimmer, Edyta Sliwinska, Louis van Amstel and other professional dancers as well as turning celebrity partners like Brandy, Kirstie Alley, Bristol Palin, Jennifer Grey, Kathy Ireland, Kurt Warner and Tom Delay into dancers. Now a new celebrity joins the ranks of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ finest – Barbie.

In 2012, Mattel introduced three ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Barbie dolls wearing costumes from three crowd-pleasing dances: the Waltz, Samba and Paso Doble.

The flirty DWTS Samba Barbie wears a yellow, pink and orange confection the reminds me of a yummy ice cream sherbet. The orange bikini top is trimmed with silver glitter and attached to the skirt with orange and silver flowers. The short, cut-away, layered skirt is trimmed with yellow feathers. Barbie’s bronze plastic earrings match her bronze shoes. Her shoulder-length blonde hair is pulled back and streaked. Mattel has really improved the process by which they mix the hair fibers to create streaks.

The bold DWTS Paso Doble Barbie has a distinctive Latin flair with her long brown hair and full red lips. Her striking red and black gown with its beautiful black and red bodice and full red skirt trimmed in black has some excellent detail. Paso Doble Barbie has gold chandelier earrings with sparkling red ‘gems.’ The gown on Paso Doble Barbie is my favorite of the three dresses.

The elegant DWTS Waltz Barbie doll is dressed in a frothy, full-length, layered pink ball gown trimmed in silver with matching slit gauntlet sleeves. Her metallic silver earrings and necklace appear to be plastic with pink ‘gems’ that look like they are painted on. However, this doll has one of the prettiest hair styles I have seen on a Barbie doll — a blonde updo with a retro side curl. Overall the Waltz Barbie doll is quite lovely and is my favorite doll of the three ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Barbie dolls.

If you love ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ these Barbie dolls might just sweep you off your feet!
