Disney World Money Saving Tips and Tricks

Disney World money saving tips and tricks from personal experiences at Disney World. Two things that really make a big difference are the Disney Meal Plan and Disney Transportation. We booked our trip through the AAA Roadside Assistance Travel Group. We choose to stay at The Caribbean Beach Resort, one the Disney properties. Our package included the “The Disney Dining Plan” for each person in our party of five. By staying at a Disney Resort we had access to bus transportation to the theme parks and to the other Disney World resorts.

We drove to Disney World in Orlando, FL because we wanted the option to come and go whenever we wanted. This worked well for trips to Walmart and to run out for midnight snacks. But the real transportation savings came from parking the car and riding the bus or monorail (or mommyrail as our five-year old grandson called it) to the theme park or another resort. Parking was as much as $15.00 a pop at one of the parks. That can add up fast if you have multi-day passes. By taking the bus and/or monorail, you can save on gas and parking. For example, if you use free parking at the Disney World Contemporary Resort and catch the free monorail to the Magic Kingdom, you save the parking fee for each trip. You can also make transfers on the monorail to get to the other parks at Disney World.

Another big saving for us at Disney world was taking bottled water and sports drinks to the parks in a cooler. The Disney Dining Plan included (1) Quick-Service Meal, one (1) Snack, and one (1) Table-Service Meal per person. We used a card that Disney calls “Your Key to the World Card” that works like a debit card to “pay” for meals. That card doubled as a room key at the resort. Most Quick-Service locations, outdoor food carts, and merchandise locations that sold frozen ice cream, novelties, popcorn, or Cola products accepted our Key to the World Card. However, food is very expensive at Disney World and gratuities are not included in the price of some meals. So be prepared to fork over some cash. One of our tips was almost $30.00. By taking water and sports drinks we didn’t have to use “Snacks” from the meal plan to buy drinks. This worked really well because the heat index was over 100 degrees everyday that we were there and we needed a lot of liquid refreshment. Which reminds me, alcoholic beverages are not included on the Dining Plan. It also left us plenty of food on our meal plan for our time at Disney. There are two Disney World Money Saving Tips and Tricks that you can use on your next trip to Disney World.
