What was once considered a ‘hobby’ is now a technological advancement rapidly shaping the future. No longer are remotely controlled vehicles that fly through the air merely toys, nor are they an aerial advantage limited to the military alone. Design innovation has propelled radio controlled vehicles far above the limits experienced by enthusiasts of the early days. Today’s UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles)–drones, as they are commonly called–are answering the call for numerous applications.

How Drones are Shaping the Future?

A technological phenomenon, drones are fulfilling a never-ending, and ever-expanding, number of uses; both the professional and the amateur are discovering new reasons to employ a drone. Probably the two biggest advocates for drone usage are media and commercial in nature, although anyone with an interest in an area’s overhead view are currently utilising drones for work that was previously limited to helicopters and airplanes, or anything that required a pilot to be in the aircraft.

Since the first attempts at aerial photography in the early days of radio controlled models, manufacturers have learned to design multi-function platforms capable of carrying different equipment to fulfill various needs. In turn, manufacturers of cameras, as well as manufacturers of scientific data collecting instruments, are constantly working to miniaturise said equipment. The results have been fantastic, opening the doors of success.

Because drones are proving to be such a versatile tool, they are now being used for just about anything anyone’s imagination can conjure; besides police, rescue, and military operations, drones are now being used by the media and, especially, business corporations, who are using them as promotional tools and even product delivery systems–‘the taco bomb,’ for example. The inventive and innovative usage of drones in today’s world is nothing short of the predictions made by science fiction writers, just scant years ago.

Drones Available Today

Parties interested in using drones today are in luck, having a distinct advantage over their predecessors, as a few manufacturers have made producing versatile flying platforms–capable of carrying various hardware- their specialty. No longer is it necessary to build one from scratch, nor is it required to modify scale models meant for hobbyists. Today’s UAVs are much more sophisticated than yesterday’s RC models. UAVs are now custom built drones, specifically designed to fulfill an assortment of professional needs.

By no means, though, has the hobbyist been left behind. It was the pioneering spirit of RC hobbyists that led to professional design. Today the amateur can have just as much fun flying a drone as does the professional. The multi-prop design is virtually the same, as are the payload capabilities.

Flying a Drone

While the high tech drones the military uses require several people and a great deal more equipment than a typical commercial UAV, the technology involved is similar. Basically, the aircraft is controlled by use of a radio which relays commands. The radio sends a programmed signal to a receiver inside the craft, which in turn sends the signal commands to servos which control the flight path. Many hobbyists familiar with RC planes and helicopters tend to pick up the flight characteristics quite easily, especially since camera equipped drones can be flown FVP (first person view),but someone who has never flown anything by remote control will need some training.

Rise Above

Drones are more than just the wave of the future, they are the now. That’s why there are drones for sale in Australia. Companies like Rise Above are pioneering the way forward by organising the best UAV products and services available today. When a job calls for a drone, quality craftsmanship counts!
