Dyson DC41 Vs DC50: Comparing the DC41 and DC50

DC41 or DC50 – Which is Best for You?

Below is a brief comparison article that will highlight both the differences as well as the similarities between two popular Dyson upright vacuums, the DC41 and DC50, and will ultimately provide you with a quick & clear indication as to which vacuum is best suited for cleaning in your home.

Dyson DC41 Vs DC50: Comparing the DC41 and DC50Dyson DC41 Overview

Practical Aspects & Design

A standard ‘full-sized’ vacuum cleaner, fitted with Dyson Ball technology (to allow for easy mobility), that measures: 107 by 39 by 34 cm & weighs in at just 7.8 kilograms, whilst offering a max reach of over 23 meters (combining the cord length: 9.4 m + telescope reach: 14 meters) & bin capacity of 2.1 liters.

Cleaning Power & Technology

In terms of cleaning performance it offers itself as one of the most powerful upright vacuum cleaners on the market — whereby its motor generates a huge suction power of 255 Air watts in combination with an advanced & unique Radial root cyclone system (this allows it to pick up microscopic dust particles, as small as 0.5 microns).

Accessories & Attachments

Moreover, with the attachments you get the combination tool, stair tool and you also get the Dyson tangle free turbine tool (an effective pet hair tool) if you buy the DC41 Animal. There is also a DC41 Animal Complete that offers you an array of additional accessories such as: the Dyson soft brush tool (used for cleaning delicate surface areas), stiff bristle tool (to remove dug-in dirt stains) etc. which is pretty much the ‘ultimate’ vacuum cleaning machine.

Practical Aspects & Design

An ‘ultra-compact’ vacuum cleaner, again fitted with a Dyson ball, with dimensions: 106.4 by 28 by 35 cm is the lightest upright vacuum Dyson offers at just 5.4 kg. Obviously, as it is so small the practical specifications are somewhat limited with a max reach of just 16.3 meters (cord length: 7.6 m + 8.7 m) and a bin storage of 0.8 liters (less than half that of the DC41).

Cleaning Power & Technology

Although the DC50 is so small, because it is literally packed with Dyson’s latest technology: i) Two-Tier Radial Root Cyclone Technology, iii) Advanced suction cleaner head and offers iii) up to 140 Air Watts of constant suction — it enables to the vacuum to actually perform to the same cleaning level as a normal standard sized vacuum cleaner.

Accessories & Attachments

Furthermore, the accessories are similar to that of the DC41 with a combination tool (which is basically an attachment that allows powered dusting & for getting into tight gaps), stair tool and because it is only really available as an DC50 Animal you will also get the tangle free turbine tool.

The Differences Between the DC41 and DC50

There are two major differences: i) being the fact that the DC41 is a much bigger vacuum that offers more substantial practical features (e.g. 2.1 liters bin compared to just 0.8 liters with the DC50) & is hence meant for cleaning medium to larger sized houses whereas the DC50 should be used for cleaning flats and apartments, given the lack of cord length & bin capacity storage (Note: the mid-sized DC40 vacuum is intended for household sizes in between the two).

ii) Secondly, despite the DC50 being integrated with an updated root cyclone system, the DC41 is still by far the more powerful cleaning machine (offering almost a 100 Air Watts more) — so if you are after a ‘super clean’ house (not that the DC50 won’t more than sufficiently be able to rise up to the task) I’d go for the DC41.

As said above, it is basically a case of what size house you intend to be cleaning — a larger sized one, needs a DC41 (as it needs the extensive max reach capability & you will also have plenty of room to store it), but if you live in a small apartment the DC50 would be more ideal (given that it is easy to store, you don’t need long cord etc.).

Remember you can get additional accessories & attachments in Dyson cleaning kits to improve the cleaning functionality of your vacuum cleaners even further.
