Dyson DC50 Upright Review

Design & Practical Features

The DC50 is designed as an ultra compact vacuum cleaner, intended for cleaning smaller households such as apartments & flats etc. It is the lightest upright ever produced by Dyson, just 5.4 kg and the fact that it is also fitted with a Dyson ball, makes maneuvering the DC50 when cleaning, extremely easy (perfect for those with mobility issues). The fact that the DC50 is so small does somewhat limit its practical specifications however, with a bin capacity of just 0.21 gallons and max reach of under 30 ft (cord length: 25 ft + hose telescope reach: 3.5 ft).

Cleaning Performance & Technology

Despite it being so small, it still can operate at the same cleaning power as that of a full sized vacuum — due to Dyson packing it with all their latest state of the art cleaning technology. For instance, it has an integrated efficient radial root cyclone technology as well as a capacity of 140 Air watts of constant cleaning power. Even the cleaner head is optimized due to its self adjusting in order to minimize air suction loss. In all, it offers a very efficient & powerful suction.

Accessories & Attachments

There are two versions of the DC50, the multi floor that comes with the basic set of accessories: the combination tool (a crevice tool with a brush nozzle attached) and stair tool, then there is the animal version (pictured left) that also comes with the most effective pet hair device on the market — the incredibly well regarded tangle free turbine tool.

What’s the Difference Between the DC44 and DC50?

The obvious factor is that the DC44 is a cordless vacuum & the DC50 is corded, with this comes several factors to consider. The DC44 will be easier to handle & more convenient for a quick clean, but for an upright the DC50 is exceptional in terms of mobility. Furthermore, the DC50 offers a much stronger cleaning performance & more extensive practical specifications (e.g. bigger bin capacity etc.) as well. Although, if the lack of power with the DC44 concerns you, you should definitely check out the DC59 Digital slim.

Another difference is with regards to warranties too — the DC50 comes with a 5 year coverage whereas the DC44 has just two.

Which Dyson Vacuum Should You Buy the DC44 or DC50?

It is basically a case of the DC44 being there to be a very helpful ‘supplement’ for your cleaning along with a normal sized vacuum cleaner — whereas the DC50 is for the actual vacuuming (although not for a normal sized home, given its compact size).
