Dyson DC56 Vs DC57: Comparing the DC56 and DC57

What’s the Difference Between the DC56 & DC57?

So you are interested in buying the unique cordless ‘Dyson Hard’ cleaner, however are unsure of the differences between that of the DC56 and the DC57, as they look essentially the same? That’s actually because they are actually identical — they are exactly the same — they have the same cleaning specifications, same battery performance, same set of accessories & ultimately carry out the very same cleaning objective: they allow you to clean your hard floors (with great ease).

To clarify, the same cleaning machine has been given two different names — the DC56 & the DC57 — this is due to international distribution & trade mark issues. You may have noticed, but the DC56 is for retail in the United States, United Kingdom etc. whereas the machine listed as the DC57 is instead sold in Canada & Japan etc.

DC56 and DC57 Overview

Cleaning Jobs & Objectives

To repeat though they are identical. The DC56/57 is intended for ‘easy’ removal of dirt & grime from your hard flooring from a single pass (saving you the hassle of firstly vacuuming your floor and/or sweeping it & then going over it with a mop) — through combining a power suction (generated through Dyson’s classic Root Cyclone technology and innovative Digital Slim V2 motor) to remove dust and then to go through with a specialized cleaning wipe. This is all based on its unique dual channel cleaner head.

Design & Practicalities

It is based on a very similar design as the Digital Slim vacuum cleaners (particularly the Dyson DC44) & is everything Dyson really — being practical, ergonomic & light. It weighs just 4.86 lbs & the weight is distributed toward the handle to give it an ‘added’ sense of lightness, which comes in handy if you are wanting to clean upwards. Dimensions: 44.1 x 7.9 x 9.84 x inches, again pretty much the same as the early Digital slim models.

Specifications & Performance

Moreover, it works on the dual power mode system — the standard option lasts 15 minutes from full charge and offers 28 AW of suction as well as a boost option which goes on for 6 minutes but for a 70% power increase to 65 AW (for the particularly grimey & dirty patches on your flooring) and can store up to 0.09 gallons. It also has an advanced filtration system in place to prevent allergens or dust particles from being expelled into the air whilst you are vacuuming. Note: the LED display will let you know if you are running out of power & due a recharge.

A 2 in 1 vacuum cleaner — where It even has the ability to double up as a handheld vacuum cleaner whereby you remove the wand & cleaner head and just attach some of the accessories provided e.g. the combination tool for it to effectively become a Dyson DC34 handheld vacuum cleaner.

What’s in the box?

In addition to the DC56 you get a charging docking station (takes roughly 3.5 hours to charge it from dead to full) that will also keep it nicely stored away along with 3 separate hard floors packs – totaling 9 wipes in total as well as a combination crevice tool (for powered dusting & vacuuming tight gaps). Note also when bought new the DC56 & DC57 are backed by a two year warranty coverage.

Should You Buy the DC56 or DC57?

I recommend that you go to check out the DC56 on Amazon.com as they usually have the best price on the DC56 (with the use of third parties retailing them as well etc.) and you can also compare it with the DC57’s price there. But, even if the DC57 is cheaper I would recommend that you go for the DC56 as I wouldn’t be totally sure how the warranty guarantee schme would work with the DC57 – if you live in the US – as well as the charger AC adapter being connected to your mains plugs.

Roughly speaking you can get it new for under $250 and used for around $175, so is pretty great value at this price (especially compared to their full recommended retail price at Dyson.com).
