Extreme activities and extreme sports you have to try before you die

As the name suggest, extreme sports are dangerous, risky and potentially life threatening. However, they are also fun, exciting, exhilarating, entertaining and give a real buzz as the adrenaline flows through your veins. Despite the dangers involved in extreme sports there are tens of thousands of people who participate in extreme sports the world over on a daily basis, so you can’t argue they aren’t popular.

There are loads of extreme sports and activities you should try before you die, so what’s stopping you? Is it that you think there are no extreme sports near you? Well, this is not the case. There are many extreme sports opportunities around, you just have to go and look for them.

Sky diving

Sky diving involves flying up to several thousand feet, jumping out of a plane and floating back down to earth attached to a parachute. You may not realise it, but there are more opportunities for sky diving than you will ever know. If you do an internet search you will find sky diving over famous landmarks, over beautiful beaches and landscapes and in top travel destinations and it is all too easy to think you need an exotic vacation to experience sky diving, but this is not the case.
Take a look around your local city or area and you will find several aircraft clubs, some of which will offer a sky diving experience. If your local aircraft club doesn’t offer sky diving experiences they will know of somewhere that does and will be able to point you in the right direction.

Sky diving in locations that aren’t geared up for tourism will cost you much less than sky diving in locations that are. Ok, so you may not be jumping out over some famous landmark or some famous beach, but you will still get to experience jumping out of a plane several thousand feet in the air and that is what sky diving is all about.

Bungee jumping

Bungee jumping involves attaching yourself to an oversized elastic band and then jumping off something high up in the air. Bungee jumping is popular in places where there are bridges high up over rivers, such as Australia, New Zealand and Central America. These locations offer stunning scenery and the chance to bungee jump in to water, and they are very popular as well as expensive. Jumping in to a deep canyon may be preferable but what if there are no such bridges or canyons in your area. Does this mean you cannot jump? Definitely not.

In order to bungee jump you only need to get a few metres off the ground and there are a number of ways you can do this, such as using a crane or a high building. Because of this you can go bungee jumping almost anywhere and thrill seekers are catching on to this. As a result, bungee jumping opportunities are springing up all over the place. Nowadays, there is no need to take an expensive vacation to a faraway place to do the whole “1, 2, 3 bungee!”

As we all know, snowboarding involves riding across the snow on a small surf board or over sized skate board. Given the name you would have thought you need snow to take part in this activity, however this is not necessarily the case.

Nowadays there are many indoor centres that have “dry” ski and snowboarding slopes. These man-made slopes don’t have snow on them instead they rely on slippery matting that replicates the feeling and action of snow. When snowboarding on dry slopes you use a conventional snowboard, use conventional snowboard techniques and can perform conventional snowboard tricks, it’s just that it isn’t as cold as being on proper snow slopes and you can use dry slopes all year around. The disadvantage is that falling over on a dry slope hurts much more than falling over on a normal ski slope.

Snowboarding on real snow is better than snowboarding on a dry slope, but there are times in life when you have to work with what you’ve got and if dry slopes are the only thing around then that is what you are going to have to use.

Using “There are no places near me that offer extreme sports opportunities” is no longer an excuse not to do some of the most popular extreme sports so get out there and give them a go.
