Food Poisoning Symptoms


There are many food poisoning symptoms. Those symptoms might start even within an hour after eating the contaminated food. In most cases, however, signs of food poisoning develop after one day. Most of the symptoms aren’t anything that one should worry about, but there are some cases when one suffering from some of them should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Food poisoning symptoms

Diarrhea is a usual food poisoning symptom. If the diarrhea is severe and lasts for more than three days it’s recommended to contact a doctor. If there is blood in your stool you should seek medical advice as well. Diarrhea can quickly result in dehydration which manifests in little urination, extreme thirst and a dry mouth. In case of those symptoms, medical advice is recommended.

Vomiting is a perfectly normal sign of food poisoning. If you are vomiting blood or the vomiting lasts a few days, you should know that these symptoms are substantial and you should consult a doctor. Please note that vomiting might also lead to dehydration.


Abdominal pain
Light abdominal pain is nothing that you should worry about. If, however, the pain is severe you should contact a doctor.

Fever is also a normal symptom, but according to you should consult a doctor when your oral temperature is higher than 101.5 F (38.6 C).

Loss of appetite

Muscle Pain



Rare symptoms of food poisoning in case of which you should seek medical advice

Problems with vision (double vision, partial loss of vision)

Partial loss of speech

Muscle paralysis

Extreme exhaustion and weakness

Please note, that when one is suffering from any of the mentioned signs for too long or the symptoms are too severe, one should seek medical advice. If you’re not certain whether your body has reacted in the right way and is healing properly it’s always better to consult a doctor. Remember, when it comes to health, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Please note that this list of food poisoning symptoms isn’t complete, it just contains the most common symptoms.
