Getting Started

Place in each bag:

1. 1 package of hot chocolate mix

2. 1 candy cane

3. Three Hershey Kisses (represents the snowman’s eyes and nose)

4. package of small marshmallows (you can make a pouch out of aluminum foil that will contain about 10-12 small marshmallows, or you can use a small baggie) on the outside of the pouch write ‘snowballs’.

5. Tie bags shut with ribbon, or the twist ties that most treat bags come with.

Making The Label

To make the label there are several creative options, and you are only limited by your imagination. See the example that I made to the right. The label says,

“I’ve heard you’ve been real good this year

Always glad to hear it!

With freezing weather drawing near

You’ll need to warm the spirit!”

“So here’s a little snowman soup

Complete with stiring stick

Add how water, sip it slow,

It’s sure to do the trick!”

For the example shown, I created the label using sheets of 2×4 adhesive labels that can be purchased at any store.

Open Microsoft Word and click on ‘Tools’

In the drop down box, select ‘letters and mailings’

Select ‘envelopes and mailings’ in the box that will appear to the right

Click the ‘labels’ tab

Click ‘options’

Scroll down and you’ll see ‘5263 Shipping’ Select it and click ‘ok’

Click on ‘new document’

Your page should be showing a bunch of blank squares.

You’ll have to experiment a bit with the margins, and once you get one square done, simply copy/paste your text into the remaining squares. Be sure to save the document if you intend on making more labels.

Once I printed my labels, I put them on colorful card stock and used scissors to cut around the label, leaving a small margin of color the whole way around.

Once you have created and cut your labels, you have several options.

I used a hole puncher, and made a hole in one of the upper corners of the label, and strung colorful ribbon through the hole, and tied it around the top of the treat bag. this made for a colorful and festive addition to the ‘snowman soup’.

Again, you are limited by your imagination, and I’ve also used Christmas mugs that I bought from garage sales or dollar stores. The sky’s the limit!

Last year I made up over 100 of these for a sorority party that was using a snowman-theme, and they paid me a reasonable amount of money. I also sold them at local holiday bazaars for between $2.00 and $3.00 a bag. I had made a couple hundred of these bags and they all sold by the end of the day.

Of course, these treats are just as suitable for a ‘just because’ to remember someone special.
