Homemade Mildew Cleaner – Cheap and Easy DIY Recipes


When you’re looking at homemade mildew cleaner recipes, you have several that you can use to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. These DIY methods really do work very well.

Vinegar Treatment

Vinegar is a wonderful product that can be used for a number of different things, inkling removing mold and mildew. It will work after applied for a short time as well, so it prevents future accumulation. To make this work, simply add equal parts of Borax and Vinegar, and about half the amount of water to a spray bottle. You’ll have to do a little rubbing and scrubbing to fully remove the mold, mildew, and bacteria build up.

Bleach Kills Mold and Mildew

If you are looking to remove and clean mildew from a hard surface, there’s nothing better than bleach and water. Mix about 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water for best results. If you use on porous surfaces, like fabrics, it’s especially important to check to make sure it’s colorfast and doesn’t fade the color. Test in an inconspicuous area.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix equal parts peroxide to water in a spray bottle and use it to clean and remove mildew and mold growth. It’s super easy to use and can be used on all surfaces effectively. It’s a really cheap alternative to store bought methods, so you’ll save some money in the process.

Tea Tree Oil

This is expensive, but it only takes a little tea tree oil to work. Add just one teaspoon of oil for every 8 ounces of water. Leave this one on and don’t rinse it off for the best results possible.

Future Prevention

A recipe is one thing, but keeping and preventing the future growth of mold and mildew is even better. Make sure the humidity in your home is regulated. Moisture accelerates the growth. In addition, clean surfaces don’t accumulate mold and mildew are quickly as dirty surfaces, so keep the areas clean.
