House Painting FAQs

How Do I Prepare for the Estimate?

You should make a detailed list of the work you want done for each room and/or the exterior of your house. You also need to choose colors and finishes, outline what you did or did not like about your last painting contractor, and provide your budget. Most estimates take around 60 minutes, depending on the work that needs to be done.

Do I Need to Stay at Home During the Project?

No. Painting contractors don’t expect your life to revolve around their schedule. At CBP, all employees are licensed, bonded, insured and have been the subject of rigorous background checks, so you can feel confident enough to be away during the project, if necessary. Obviously, you are more than welcome to stick around and find out how professional painting contractors operate.

How Long Will the Paint Job Last?

This depends on a number of factors, including the amount of traffic in an area, if there are smokers in the home, and if there is a fireplace used regularly. We only use premium quality paint, which means the end result should last for six to 10 years.

What About My Furniture?

We take the utmost care when it comes to the possessions of our clients. The furniture will be moved to the center of the room, where it will then be covered with plastic sheeting; high-quality canvas drop cloth will protect your floor.

How Do You Prepare the Surface?

We analyze every surface carefully and fill in and sand every hole. We also take great care to correctly scrape out, fill, and sand cracks on the surface to be painted. Then we inspect the caulking around the frames of doors and windows and re-caulk if necessary. Crayon marks, water stains, etc., are sealed, and we thoroughly clean the surface to get rid of grease and dirt. Finally, we check for mildew and remove any we find.

What Kind of Paint Do You Use?

At CBP, we only use top-of-the-line paint from brands like Benjamin Moore and Sherman Williams. Whether latex or oil-based paint is used depends on the project. Ultimately, the quality of paint is all-important if you want a beautiful and long-lasting final outcome.

What Should I Do Before You Begin Work?

We need you to remove fragile items, such as electronic devices and glassware, and store them in a safe place. Typically, furniture can be moved around and protected. Once we have finished the job, we ensure everything is back the way you like it.

How Do I Make Sure I Have Chosen the Right Color?

The last thing we want is for you to regret your choice of color scheme. We recommend that you spend some time choosing the right colors, and our team of experts will be delighted to help. Make sure you get color charts ahead of time and perhaps purchase a small quantity of paint in that color to try in different areas of the home. A few samples of paint are much cheaper than repainting an entire room or house because you hate the color!
