The force that drives all activities of human beings to achieve certain goals is Motivation. It may also be put as the ambition and determination mixed with a level of excitement to endure obstacles to approach greater heights. In respect of the nature of human beings, this force that drives us comes from within ourselves or externally.
Motivation has been seen as a dynamic and constantly changing feature at different times. As it is shown, achieving one goal paves the way for that person to aim for a greater goal and work towards achieving it. This cycle will most probably be seen to run through an individual’s entire life. But we may be able to see that there is evidence of demotivation in lives of some people and it might become a road to great setbacks in most aspects of their lives. Although it is most talked about regarding the lives of human beings, it may also be used to explain different patterns of animal behavior also.
Many theorists that have dedicated most of their lives to this topic have and are still discussing and also analyzing the valuable concept of motivation. This concept can occur due to a person’s requirement for maximum happiness with minimum effort. We are able to explore further on this concept, identifying and evaluating it much more closely while evaluating it on the external as well as the internal factors that may have an effect on motivation. As a start we can dissect motivation into two wide categories. That will be extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic is what we usually call self-motivation and it exists inside an individual. It will not depend on any external requirements. It will most often be driven by the interest one has to do something and the satisfaction he will get by doing it. Intrinsic motivation, as specified by several psychologists has in many cases shown to be related to higher academic success and enjoyment related in learning new things.

But extrinsic motivation however, shows a driving force that can be seen in an individual of which, his behavior will be seen as driven by something outside the person. Some psychologists depict money, grades, punishment and coercion among other things to be key extrinsic motivators of many people. People are to be seen behaving in a totally different method of being motivated when offered with options like competitions. Individuals may also have a combo of these two methods if they see that the external motivating factors coincide with their internal beliefs and ideas. These people may get opportunities to achieve their main psychological requirements faster than others that have only one method of motivation.
Well, in respect to this, you will be able to see that the size of effort inserted into any task or activity will display the amount of motivation one has towards it. If we take education for an example, we may see that a student will perform better if he or she understands how to get more marks in an exam by inserting lesser effort in the preparation for it. Finally, if we look in to different professions, we will be able to see that the key point that decides the motivation levels is how easily a task can be performed.?
What it takes to be self-motivated
A person will sometimes have aims and desires of getting things in their lives or they need to reach a particular goal. However, they may lack the willingness to initiate any action. The reason for that will be the absence of their inner drive or in other words ‘motivation.’ Before we talk about what it takes to be self-motivated, we will have to understand what ‘motivation’ is. A simple definition for the word motivation will be: the inner drive that pushes one to achieve certain targets or goals in life. It has a lot to do with ambition and desire. If you find these to be lacking inside you, then you will lack motivation too.
If you need to touch a required goal or need to advance in life, you will see that self-motivation will be something very essential. Self-motivation is defined as the process of satisfying your desires, goals and expectations without having any influence by any third party. Success in anything you may do will be depending on it. You will not get any positive results if you lack motivation within you. You will however receive better and much more greater results if you are self-motivated in what you do. Comparing a student who does not have any self-motivation within, a student that will be highly self-motivated will easily be able to devote more time to studies and compared to the first, will show high grades in any exam he or she may face. You will personally find out that self-motivation will be something that is not easy to attain although some religions and many other beliefs may tell you otherwise. It is an act of summoning up your internal energy to focus it on a task in order to gain a higher benefit by inserting lower strain. You can have better control of your body if your mind will be controlling itself properly.
Self-motivation is something that is able to strengthen your ambitions. It may increase your initiative and give you direction, energy, courage, and the endurance to pursue a goal. You can find many self-motivated people that do anything and everything that is required to get to their goals.
So answering the question of what it takes to be self-motivated, you will see that there should be certain requirements that have to be fulfilled in order to build up self-motivation. You should first have a cause to get self-motivated. Being motivated with no target will also be a very dangerous thing. You should also have a dream of what it will be like once the goal is achieved. The hunger for achieving the goal is also required. Then you should run the race by your own. Sometimes it is better than having someone to help at the beginning and no one at the end. You should always try to take the next step. But the most important thing will be to let go of your past. Having a vision of the things you need to achieve will make your desire to have it stronger. Self-motivation then kicks in and drives you forward to take the necessary actions in order to materialize what you have in mind.?
