See why the Roomba 780 is the winner below.

Roomba 770 Overview

Cleaning Technology & Navigation System

As with all Roomba 700 series robot vacuums, the 770 is integrated with the highly effective 3 stage cleaning process, combining three independent cleaning components (i. aerovac suction, ii. side brushes and iii. counter rotating brush bars) in unison to be highly effective in removing dirt, dust and pet hair from all floor types (especially hard flooring).

It is also installed with a sophisticated computer system that has a GPS like software system, the intelligent iAdapt Responsive technology, so that it can effectively navigate itself around your room, finding the most optimal cleaning path whilst avoiding potential hazards (e.g. wires, drop off points, obstacles etc. Not only this it has Dirt Detect Series 2 installed whereby through optical and acoustic sensors it identifies particularly dirty patches of flooring in your house and will then engage the persistent pass program to repeatedly vacuum in a back n’ forth type motion (like you would with a normal manual vacuum) until its fully clean.

Battery Performance & Integrated Filters

From a single charge it can run for around about 120 minutes (with power management), but what is really unique though, is that if the Roomba 770 is half way through a job and it knows it is about to run out of power — it will take itself automatically back to its docking station to be charged again, and will then return to carry on where it left off and finish the job in hand. Also, you will appreciate the sophisticated dual HEPA filter system in place, to prevent dust & allergens from being expelled into the air whilst it vacuums — leaving behind a nice clean and healthy household air supply.

Features, Specifications & Accessories

Further features to note are – its on board scheduling system, something that most Roomba owners absolutely love, whereby you can program it to start cleaning any time of day, 7 days a week. Therefore, you can set it to clean whilst you are at work, so every time you come back, your flooring is spic and span (all this can be set with the remote control you get with it, so you never have to leave the sofa of course). You also get a pair of virtual walls that act to enclose it within a specified cleaning area as well, without the need for physical barriers. It will also give you a visual indicator to let you know the bin needs emptying, rather than having to second guess it all the time like with older models.

Roomba 780 Overview

Cleaning Technology & Navigation System

The 780 is a slight ‘upgrade’ to the 770 as you will soon see why in a moment. Like the 770 though, it comes with the same patented and unique cleaning system, the 3-stage cleaning with aerovac series 2 (far more effective than the 600 & 500 Roomba series robot vacuums). It essentially performs like a super powered & intelligent dust pan and broom. Moreover, it comes with an ‘advanced cleaning head’ to allow for even better pick up of pet hair (perfect for pet owners).

Again, the 780 has the dirt detect series 2 software to help it with identifying dirty & stained parts of your flooring & uses the persistent pass to get rid of it. Also, the Roomba 780 comes with the iAdapt GPS like Responsive technology with the clever Houdini Escape mechanism for if it gets caught up in wires accidentally.

Battery Performance & Integrated Filters

With the Roomba 780 you also get a free docking station which keeps it nicely stored away as well as charging it ready for vacuuming the next day for a 2 hour plus stint. Moreover, you it also comes with the Dual HEPA air filters capturing more than 99.97% of unwanted particles from entering into your home’s air supply.

Features, Specifications & Accessories

This is where the 780 really comes into its own, coming with all the bells and whistles. Firstly, it comes with all the cool features that the Roomba 770 offers with regards to the 7 days a week scheduling system, remote control etc. but it also offers Room to Room cleaning with the virtual light houses, meaning it will finish cleaning up one room and then automatically turn to the next without your intervention. Not only this, but tech geeks will love the fact that it also comes with a very easy to use touchpad panel to alter cleaning settings (saving you the hassle of lengthy & complicated set up process). Along with an additional audible beep & visual indicator for when the bin is full.

Overall, it is a top of the line Roomba that does have a significant cleaning & practical edge over its counterpart Roomba 770. But which will you buy the Roomba 770 or 780 & why (let me know in the comments below)?

What’s the Difference Between the Roomba 770 and 780?

So apart from the obvious different colored finish (770 being black and 780 being more of a dark gray), the main difference between the 770 Vs 780 is the fact the 780 comes with the incredibly useful feature of room to room cleaning as well as an easy-use touch pad control system. Along with the fact the 780 offers an audible bin indicator beep. With a price difference of about $70, the added ‘practicality’ value the 780 offers, gives it that edge — so this is the model that I’d advise you to get.
