Is There Really A Treatment For Vicodin Addiction?


Do you know someone or are having a problem with treatment for Vicodin addiction? I probably don’t have to explain to you what Vicodin is, but if you don’t know, it is a narcotic that is used for pain. So many people, mothers, fathers and even grandparents can become addicted to this drug. Why is it so powerful that even your grandmother may not be able to stop?

Most people don’t honestly think there is anything wrong with it. They don’t believe it is harmful and the use of it is rationalized because it is prescribed by a doctor and it really does relieve pain. Just what does Vicodin do to your body and brain? It’s effects alter the brain function and if you over abuse the drug, it will stop the production of endorphins by the brain, making you rely more and more on the pill because in reality you become more in pain and need the pill to make you feel better. It is even considered a stress reliever because it does make the person taking it more relaxed.

The bad thing is a Vicodin addiction can alienate you from your own family. After awhile, you will become controlled by that little pill and your relationships can go right out the window! All you will care about is that pill and how it makes you feel better. The bad thing is your Vicodin addiction is doctor approved in some cases!

What can we do about it? Is there a treatment for Vicodin Addiction?

Here are some things you can do if you have a problem or if you need to help someone else:

  • Call a treatment program to see if they indeed do need to seek counseling. It may be inhouse or from an outpatient center. Here are a few national numbers you can call:

  • Call your doctor and when you go see him/her, ask them to help you wean yourself off the medications. If you are truly serious, your doctor will start a program and monitor you and slowly wean you off the pills. A vicodin addiction can be dangerous to just quit, so get help first from your doctor.

Don’t be afraid to admit to yourself that you have a problem, because deep down you know that when you take all those pills, it really isn’t in your best interest. Do whatever it takes to get help, there are people out there who want to help. If you have a loved one who needs help, the best thing you can do is to find a way to do it. Cloudy minds go nowhere so get help with some type of treatment for vicodin addiction before it’s too late.
