Jack the Giant Slayer Soundtrack

Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Slayer will feature a musical score composed by frequent collaborator John Ottman. Singer and Ottman has worked together in several films including Superman Returns, Apt Pupil, X2: X-Men United, and The Usual Suspects. Their most recent collaboration was on Valkyrie, a 2008 historical thriller film set in Germany during the second World War. Besides composing the scores for said films, Ottman also acted as the film editor. His editing work on The Usual Suspects earned him an award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Other major films he scored were Fantastic Four, its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Invasion, House of Wax and Astro Boy. Ottman is a graduate of the University of Southern California from the School of Cinematic Arts.

Ottman is also a film director although he made just one feature film, the 2000 slasher flick titled Urban Legends: Final Cut. It was a sequel to the 1998 hit Urban Legend. Ottman worked on television as well, focusing on composing music for video commercials. These include commercials for Coca-Cola, Samsung, Nike and Gateway.

For his compositions, Ottman has earned nominations and awards from the Saturn Awards, the Emmy Awards, and the American Cinema Editors Awards. Most of these nominations were in recognition of his work on Bryan Singer’s The Usual Suspects.

About the Movie: Formerly titled Jack the Giant Killer, Jack the Giant Slayer is a reimagining of the popular Jack and the Beanstalk story. The screenplay is written by Dan Studney, Darren Lemke and Christopher McQuarrie. The film follows the adventures of a young farmer named Jack who goes on a journey to rescue a princess from a race of ruthless giants. English actor and model Nicholas Hoult plays the lead role of Jack. Other members of the cast include Eleanor Tomlinson, Ian McShane, Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor.

The film will be released on March 1, 2013.
