Langkawi: Where to shop and what to buy while traveling

If you ask tourists about the reasons of visiting Langkawi, the majority of them, in addition to the beautiful beaches and breathtaking sights, will mention shopping.
And do you know why? Because just a few decades ago this Malaysian island was proclaimed as a tax-free zone and since that time it has provided fantastic shopping opportunities for visitors.

So, in case you decide to have a nice shopping on Langkawi, first of all check out the list of the most cost-effective goods that are available there:

– Chocolate. The prices are 30-40% lower than in Kuala Lumpur. The island offers a wide variety of chocolate, but don’t forget to check the expiry date before buying.

– Liquor, wine and beer are very cheap. When purchasing alcoholic beverages with cash, not credit cards, many duty-free shops will be able to offer additional discount of 10-12% from the initial price.

– Cigarettes and cigars are much cheaper than in Malaysia. But don’t buy them right at Langkawi Arport, where they are very expensive.

– Perfumes. Some shopping spots offer a wide variety of world’s famous brands of perfumes, and the prices are much cheaper than you expect.

– Kitchen utensils and cutlery: pots, pans, cups, dishes, etc. Among the presented brands are Luminarc, Corelle, CoringWare, Pyrex, Acropal, Visions.

– Bags and suitcases. If you plan to make a mega-shopping on Langkawi, buy an extra bag or suitcase. There are many fake brands, but despite this, their quality is excellent and the rates are very cheap.

– Sportswear. Lots of well-known brands such as Nike and Adidas are available with large discounts.

– There are many other goods on Langkawi with tax-free prices: spa-goods, confectionery, cameras, cosmetics, watches and different electronic items.

Well, despite the status of the island, not all Langkawi’s stores and shopping centers offer goods without additional fees. “Tax-free” is available only in particular shops and malls. Most of them are concentrated in Kuah – the commercial hub of Langkawi. And unfortunately, not all tax-free stores are really cheap. Several shopping centers such as Jetty Point Shopping Complex offer goods at higher prices than other tax-free shops. Similarly, the prices at the airport are also much higher than in the other Langkawi’s shops.
So, for your convenience we’ve prepared the list of spots where you can enjoy an amazing tax-free shopping at the most attractive rates:
