Live in Las Vegas? Dental implants needed? Here is what you need to know!

If you’re living in Las Vegas, dental implants are the popular choice for replacing a lost tooth. This article will take an in depth look into what a dental implant actually is, the ball park figure for this procedure and the advantages and disadvantages that might surround such a procedure.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a series of procedures and a bone surgery that replace the roots of a lost tooth with screw like posts made of titanium. Titanium is the only metal that can actually bond with the jawbone and overtime become a part of the bone, which is why it is used as the root implant. Then comes the implant abutment which is then capped with a crown which emulates the enamel i.e. the visible part of the tooth.

Cost of a Dental Implant

The cost of a dental implant depends on your particular condition. However, the average cost of an implant ranges from $800 to $2,000, the abutment varies from $600 to $900, while the crown can cost anything from $1,200 to $1,800. That’s a maximum of $4,700 which does not include any other expenses that will be incurred such as full mouth x-rays (approximately $200). Some doctors also require a C.T scan ($300) so as to map the nerves exactly.

Follow up visits for maintenance are also a necessary evil when it comes to Dental implants in Las Vegas or anywhere. Maintenance visits can cost up to $50, cleanings up to $80 to $250 and, if required, screw replacements can range anything from $25 to $1,000.

All of the above do not include the service fee charged by the dentist, which will depend on the complexity of the case.

Advantages of Dental Implants

• The foremost advantage of dental implants is that, if taken care of properly, they can have a life of around 30 years.

• Even though you may have lost a tooth, a dental implant seems natural leaving your smile and mouth looking the same as they did before losing the tooth, if not better.

• Plugging the hole with an implant will retain and protect the health of your jaw bone.

• Using dentures can be a hassle considering that they have to be removed and cleaned. They can also become lose, causing them to slip out. They also make speaking a bit difficult for the first few days. No such hassles with dental implants.

Disadvantages of Dental Implants

• No insurance company fully covers dental implants. Some companies may cover a minimum limit on dental care, but it is nowhere near enough to cover the entire cost.

• Foremost, dental implants require surgery. As with all surgeries, there is at least a 5% to 10% risk of something going wrong during it. These risks may include infection, nerve damage, damage to other teeth, jaw fractures etc.

• You will need follow up visits for cleaning and maintenance. You might even need to replace the crown in case it chips.

• Losing bone around the implant with time is a rule of thumb, which might lead you to have another implant.

As with any decision that alters your natural body, there are risks that should be considered. The financial feasibility should also be taken into account before you take the leap from dentures to dental implants.
