Mother's Day – For Very Special People

Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May every year. Mother’s Day was created by a young lady named Anna Jarvis in 1908. Anna Jarvis created this special event to honor ones mother. Anna Jarvis continued to promote the holiday until 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson made it an official holiday. Mother’s Day became so highly commercialized that many, including its founder, Anna Jarvis, ended up opposing the holiday. Anna Jarvis died in 1948, regretting what had become of the holiday. In the United States, Mother’s Day remains one of the biggest days for sales of flowers and greeting cards.
I suppose that maybe Anna Jarvis, in her dismay didn’t realize that buying flowers and gift cards were maybe the only way children knew how to show what their mother meant to them. In a persons mind, how do you show your mother all that she means to you. I for one cannot put into words what my mother means to me.

Your mother is the first person you love, trust and look up to. She is the person who teaches you about life with its ups and downs. She heals the hurt, comforts the pain, cheers you on, cries for you and with you and worries about you. The list goes on and on, so how do you show her all that she means to you on one day of the year. Most of us do it with cards, flowers, dinner out, dinner in (of course, made by you), phone calls, etc. Many family gatherings happen on this special day, and this is probably one of the best gifts you can give your mother, to have all of her family surround her.

My mother is not with me anymore, but I wish I could have found a way to show her how much she meant to me. I feel that being the best person I can be is my way of showing my mother how much I love and miss her. I know that when I see my own children, how much I love them and am so proud of the people they have become, I hope my mother knows she is the one who taught me how to teach them.
When you think of the ways to celebrate Mother’s Day, always think with your heart. It doesn’t matter if it is something that you created or spent a lot of money on, if it comes from the heart, mom will love it.

Mothers are not always the person who gave birth to you. There are many grandmothers, aunts, friends and more who are like mothers to people they did not give birth to, but have shown them what it is to love them like a mother does.
If your Dad is also your Mom, let him know how much you appreciate all that he has done for you. He may not want flowers, but he needs to know that you recognize his efforts. There are many grandmothers, aunts, friends and more who are like mothers to people they did not give birth to, but have shown them what it is to love them like a mother does.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in the world, I hope you know just how much you are loved and appreciated.
