Often Forgotten Items To Pack For Your Next Adventure Trip

When you’re packing for a trip, there are only a few essential items you MUST remember to bring with you – things like ID, medication, or travel information. Anything else from home that you forget can most often be purchased once you arrive at your destination, or somewhere along the way in an airport or convenience store. However, there are still some items that are tricky to remember ahead of time, and might be difficult to locate when you’re away from home and out of your comfort zone. Keep this list close at hand as you’re packing for your next trip and you’ll be ahead in the game.

  • Batteries
  • Camera, film and batteries plus pare flash cards or memory for digital media
  • Chewing gum or mints, especially if you are flying
  • Compass
  • Duct tape (this can fix everything in a pinch!)
  • Eating utensils
  • Electrical adapter and plug converter
  • Fishing line – Strongest string in the world!
  • Flashlight or torch – Don’t forget the batteries
  • Frisbee, hacky sack, ball, pack of cards or other recreational items
  • Small “American” gifts are always appreciated while travelling out of the country
  • Guidebooks, or print outs
  • Inflatable travel pillow
  • International driving license – If driving overseas, have your driving license translated
  • Laundry detergent
  • Maps (consider a small map of the world to show new people you meet where you are from)
  • Mini camera tripod
  • Mobile phone or SIM card
  • Mosquito net
  • Phone card
  • Photocopies of important documents in case they are stolen
  • Phrase books or dictionaries
  • Power cords and chargers for all your electrical items
  • Sleep sheet (especially if you’ll be sleeping in youth hostels)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Swiss Army knife or Leatherman tool
  • Toilet paper
  • Travel alarm clock
  • Universal sink plug
  • Watch
  • Wet wipes/Baby wipes – Handy for cleaning hands or washing yourself in absence of a shower
  • Ziplock bags – The freezer ones are usually the best
