Never heard of ‘Orangettes’?, well let me be the first to introduce it to you. Orangettes are strips of candied orange peel dipped in chocolate. This dish is great with coffee, and is preferably eaten after the end of a meal. This recipe is several steps long, but plenty of servings will be available.
Preparation Time: 1 hour
Cook Time: 60 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour & 60 minutes
Ingredients:1 Large orange
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 chopped semisweet chocolate
Use a peeler to do this; cut 3-inch long, 3/4-inch wide strips of orange peel from the orange. Get a small saucepan of water to cook and boil the orange peels for 10 minutes. Rinse and drain the peels, and boil them in fresh water for another 10 minutes; repeat this 1 more time.
Pour the sugar and water to a boil the saucepan and stir occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved. Drop in the orange peels and continue stirring the mixture for about 15 minutes. Then, move the orange peels on drying rack or paper towel and leave it there for about 40-50 minutes.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, place the chocolate in a double boiler over boiling water, and stir until the chocolate is melted. Dip a half of the orange strip in the chocolate, leaving 1/3 of the peel without chocolate, and place it on the baking sheet. Let chocolate set for about 3-4 minutes.
Then, eat and enjoy!
