Physical Security Training Access Program

Physical Security

A physical security training access program may consist of various tests in different areas to see if the potential trainee is suitable for performing the task of physical protection. Physical protection is not a concept that was invented yesterday. Ever since the dawn of civilization people have been inventing many types of means for intrusion and in response to that, the same amount of security methods. Physical security represents a set of measures that are intended to repel any unauthorized intrusion (both intended and accidental) that might cause irreparable damage. Physical security also comprises measures for protection against natural disasters or man caused accidents. There are various types of subjects of physical security but most of them fall into three main categories:

1. Personnel
2. Physical properties
3. Information

Having this in mind, it is logical to assume that the physical security training programs are directed towards specializing in protection of one of these subjects. Well conceived physical security employs the concept of layered defense that combines passive defense (deter and delay violation) and active defense, i.e. detection and response to violation. The mail goal is to become too risky or difficult for the attacker to make an attempt on the target.

Basics of physical security

There are three principal parts of physical security. First, barriers are being placed it the way the intruder and locations and building can be reinforced against accidents and natural catastrophes. Those measures may be as simple as double locked door, or walls, fences or even guardhouses. Second, surveillance systems and early notification schemes like cameras, heat sensors, motion detectors, alarms etc. Third are methods of seizing the intruders (best before they do damage) and to resume with normal activities.

Some governments have their own national physical security training centers. Their access program is very rigorous, having in mind that most of the objects and personnel that are being under protection are of high national significance. In most of the countries, only law enforcement officers or military personnel have the authorization to access that training program. But there also exist a number of private training centers that are open for anyone who would like to acquire physical security training, no matter the reasons.

Personnel and object security

Measurements taken for providing physical security of personnel may be very often same as those for objects, buildings and facilities. The training program for persons who would execute the mission of protecting a certain subject is rigorous. It involves hard physical training, military tactics and self-defense. Throughout the course of the physical security training access program, the trainees will have to learn how to establish a proper defense system. That means acquiring knowledge of security consideration, assessment of the vulnerability of the protected subject, taking precautions against explosives or electronic surveillance.

Like mentioned earlier, there are several basic elements of physical security:

– Obstacles, to retain or rebuff attacker, and that includes explosion protection;
– Detection system, like cameras, lights, motion sensors, heat detectors or security guards;
– Response, to repel or apprehend intruders once the attack has commenced.

In a well contemplated security system these elements complement each other. The aim of physical security is to discourage potential attackers that the cost of the potential attack may be too costly for them to even consider it. Since there are no two situations completely alike, we cannot talk about “the best” physical security technique. But there are some general

traits that every well designed physical security system possesses:

– Environmental layer
– Mechanical or electronic access control
– Personnel identification
– Violation detection and response

People who could pass the physical security training access program are most often acting or former law enforcement officers or military personnel, or in general case persons with great physical condition and agility.

Information protection

In recent years, with the fast development of information and communication technologies, as well as increased security demands have broadened the traditional definition of physical security and widened the range of measurements taken. For example, more and more fire alarm systems are becoming based on Internet Protocol which enables them to be accessed through a network. Many facilities have physical security information management applications that integrate all systems within the organization providing one centralized means for security.

When talking about information and communication, the security of important and sensitive information is quintessential. They say that in modern warfare the winner is not the one with best guns, but the one with best intelligence. So keeping that crucial information safe can prove to be lifesaving both for a person or an organization or business.

Physical security of information can be achieved in several ways. Information security systems are comprised of two parts: physical (hardware) and virtual (software). The hardware component can be easily connected to the protection systems in the previous section, i.e. the electronic surveillance like cameras, sensors and detectors, but also routers and servers. The software is basically a firewall that detects and denies attacks on the system through the network and prevents the attackers to reach sensitive information.

In the most cases, people who are responsible for information security are IT technicians or engineers, so the training for them might take longer, considering that they must go through educational process.

Other examples of physical security

Security is essential for any person, no matter the status in society. Going through a physical security training access program can help not only you personally, but people surrounding you also. Physical security training very often is not focused just on the physical part; you can receive a first aid training also.

Trouble can find you anywhere these days. Your children might be harassed at school or maybe they love to have a night out. You would all feel more comfortable if you know that they have received security training. What if you pass through rough and dark neighborhood on your way home from work? Anyone could attack you at any time. It is lifesaving to have any kind of training in situations like that. Protecting your home from various kinds of treats means laying out a security system. You can install alarms, have security cameras or program a parental control on your home LAN to keep your kids safe from online predators.

Physical security training access program can be useful for anyone and even children can benefit from that in a way that it may help improve their physique.
