Preparing a Garden

Whether you are growing a flower, herb or vegetable garden, it is important to prepare the soil correctly and provide proper fencing. After reading this article, you will understand how to prepare for any type of garden.

The first thing you need to do is find a location you want your garden to be. Find a place in your yard where you get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight during the day. If you have a fenced area to keep out pests such as squirrels, rabbits and raccoons this is the best.

You can now start with making sure the soil matter is perfect for the type of garden you are starting. Sand and clay soils may be just what your garden need. You should test the soil acidity to be sure it has enough acid. Add sulfur or lime to adjust the acid level that your garden requires.

Be sure all of weeds and grass is out of the soil so you can start with a clean ground. You can then rake the soil so it is loose and even. Spread the soil throughout the area you would like to plant your garden. Smoothing out the soil with your garden rake will even out the high and low spots in your soil.

Fertilize the soil with nutrients it needs. Different types of gardens will need different types of nutrients. Researching the nutrients you need is extremely helpful. You can now plant your garden with your vegetables, herbs or flowers. Make sure that they are evenly spaced out for proper growth. It is also important to plant your garden at the correct time of the year.

The last step is maintaining your garden. Install fences so the pests don’t get in and eat your garden. Picking weeds out of your garden is essential because weeds are also plants and they could quickly take over. These harmful plants will take all the water and nutrients that your important plants need to grow. Also be sure to water it often so it can grow perfect. Enjoy viewing your beautiful garden once your flowers bloom and eating your herbs and vegetables you have planted.
