Reasons why Tire pressure monitors should be replaced every 10 years

Tire Pressure Monitor System is now a mandatory tool in all vehicles. This is partly because many drivers and motorists do not often check their tires, which has led to numerous road accidents and fatalities. Your car’s tire pressure is a very important tool to make driving a safe endeavor for you. Its batteries last about 5-10 years and needs to be replaced immediately. Here are the reasons why this system is so important and why checking it regularly is important.

Why Tire Pressure Monitors are to be replaced every 10 years:

Reasons why Tire pressure monitors should be replaced every 10 years

Here are the benefits of changing your TPMS every 10 years:

  • A properly inflated tire decreases maintenance and extends their life. Under inflation often leads to tire failure, which can build up internal heat, ply separation, increase rolling resistance, loss of steering precision, cornering instability and reduces fuel economy. These conditions can become costly repairs too.
  • The car becomes environmentally friendly because a properly inflated tire does not release carbon monoxide, which are pollutants in the atmosphere. Under inflated tires release about 57.5 billion pounds of carbon monoxide, which can be dangerous.
  • It also improves your safety and comfort while driving. An under inflated tire can often lead to tire separation and failure, thus causing major road accidents and fatalities every time. It will also provide greater stability, handling, efficient braking capacity, which makes the driver, the passengers, the vehicle, the load and others on the road to be safe, as well.
  • A properly inflated tire will also help you save on fuel. According to statistics, under inflated tires waste about 2 billion gallons of fuel each year. That amount could already fuel hundreds of vehicles.

Troubleshoot your tire monitoring system

1. Test if there is really a TPS problem

Normally, a TPMS light flashes when there is a low tire. But if the light remains after inflating the tires, there might be a bigger problem that would need further testing.

2. Use a TPMS tool to activate response signals of each tire pressure from each wheel

This will help you see whether or not the sensor is capable of generating a signal and if the sensor still generates a signal even if it is inaccurate or not. Verify pressure reading from your sensor by comparing it with the actual pressure taken through a tire gauge. They should have the same measurement.

3. Check for corroded TPMS valve systems

Overusage, such as frequent driving a vehicle, causes the tpms valve stems to become damaged. The more frequent the car gets driven, the more frequent the Tire Monitoring System also gives out signals, thus making it prone to damage. This also eats up the battery life much faster

4. Replace the system if it is not functioning accurately.

If you will replace the valve system, choose the ones made of stainless steel to prevent corrosion.

Replace TPMS with new tires

When your tires are worn out, it is also possible that the Tire Monitor System is also at its end. It is best that you include replacing the tires and the monitor altogether for a safer and stable driving.

A functional tire monitoring system is indeed important to safeguard you, the passengers and the vehicle. This will also prevent you to have any untoward accidents that were always a common occurrence in tire failure.
