Self Esteem Help for Adults Who Suffered Mental Abuse as Children

-

Self esteem help is a top priority if you are an adult who is currently battling the effects of childhood abuse. There is no doubt that what happened to you as a child was painful, frightening, and caused you so much confusion and guilt. It was unfair, mean-spirited and just plain wrong. It not only retarded your progress as a child, but continues to do so as an adult. If the suffering continues, you will always achieve sub-par performance and your life will never really improve. It’s like being a hunchback who carries deadweight up a steep mountain throughout in a heavy rainstorm. This post contains some starter ideas that will get you on the road to recovery. In short, they are designed to provide self help for low self esteem victims.

Read Books on Boosting Self Esteem
The most recommended books for boosting self esteem are The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, The Magic of Believing by Claude M. Bristol, TNT, The Power Within You by Claude M. Bristol, and Pyschocybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. Jot down the ideas that appeal to you, and then apply them daily. Make it a personal mission to scour lots of books on self esteem boosters. Read until the information begins to make sense mentally rather than just intellectually.

Listen to CDs on Building Self Esteem
There are many CD programs that focus primarily on building self esteem. Listen to them during those moments when you are relaxed, and are not busy tending to other matters. You don’t want any distractions when listening to CDs. Unlike books, if you miss an idea presented on a CD, you won’t notice like you normally would when reading words on a page. So, create a listening environment with the least amount of interruption. Also, CDs are great for listening while driving. Your vehicle will act as a mobile mental health center, and will serve you well while waiting in rush-hour bumper-to-bumper traffic. CD learning is an excellent way to improve self esteem.

Keep a Self Respect Journal
A self respect journal is a book with blank pages that you will fill up daily with lessons and steps to help build your self esteem. Your aim is to keep track of how well you are progressing in your self esteem building program. The journal should contain ideas from helpful sources such as books, magazine articles, and CD programs. It should also contain your own private thoughts, experiences, and solutions. Lastly, your journal should be for your eyes only. You don’t want to share the information in your journal with anyone else at the risk of being ridiculed, and sabotaging your self esteem building efforts.

Amass and Study Exhaustive Reports on Self Esteem Issues
The Internet provides great scientific data regarding the psychological and physiological effects of low self esteem on human beings. Spend time researching and reading this data. Doing so will help you understand how your self esteem issues are effecting your mind and body functions. The more you understand the negative scientific effects of poor self esteem, the better equipped you will be at battling it.

Practice Creative Visualization
Creative visualization is a mind-mapping process that involves mentally focusing purely on desired physical outcomes. An example of how it works is if you wanted a brand new laptop computer, you would simply visualize being in possession of it. You would visualize the make, model, style, color, and all of its state-of-the-art electronic features. The idea is that if you see it in your mind‘s eye, you will eventually own it. However, gaining ownership is not solely a matter of visualizing it. You have to make some type of physical effort to get it. This might include checking out laptops in electronic stores, talking to computer sales professionals, and working extra hours at your job to earn and save the money to buy one. Creative visualization is a great exercise for building self esteem.

You have a long road ahead of you, and many years of major repair work in battling your poor self esteem. Nevertheless, hope isn’t lost, and you are not alone. Millions of adults are dealing with this problem, and millions are taking strong measures to cure themselves in record numbers. You are a unique individual with so much to look forward to in the future. Today is the first day of your brand new life as a strong, confident, and valuable human being. Use the methods above, and you will benefit favorably from this self esteem help agenda.
