Simple Steps to Increase Memory Space of Mac

-

Even though, you might be running your Mac with 64GB storage but the disk space is still important. Even your MacBook with the latest update might at a time feel space crunch. However, to de-clutter your system to save memory space on the disk you would require cleaning it up from excess of data. At times, you need to remove unwanted data to free up memory space.
Given here are some simple solutions to increase memory space of your Mac:

Obsolete Applications

Often it happens that you install various applications only to forget deleting them when not in use. These keep acquiring unnecessary memory space on your Mac. Uninstalling unwanted or obsolete applications is necessary to free up disk space. Follow a few simple steps like – Launch Finder Window-> Applications, drag and drop in Trash, now the applications will be moved to trash can.
If you really want to remove heavy applications that are large in size then launch Finder-> Applications-> Show items in a list-> Size, this will reveal the size of all the applications that are installed on the system.

Temporary Files

You need to locate temporary files, as these are not required. If you are running Mac OS X then your temporary files are automatically removed. For others you will need an application like Mac CCleaner that will help you delete unwanted temporary files. However, remember not to delete browser cache as these files help in faster downloading of pages.

Trash Cans

The most overlooked yet used up space is that of trashcans of your Mac. After deleting files you will find them there, this happens for the purpose of recovering them if required. However, even a trash can need to be emptied once in a while. Remember once you delete files from here they will be beyond recovery. Another thing to remember is that Mac might have multiple trash cans. You need to carefully delete files from there. First, you need to focus on main trashcan by ‘Ctrl+click’ or by selecting ‘Empty Trash’ option with a right-click on the Trash icon.

Memory Analysis

Often, it becomes essential to analyze the memory space or the disk space acquired by applications. For this purpose, you would need a disk analyzer tool like Disk Inventory X that is designed to work for Mac. This tool helps in analyzing the hard disk space and displays each folder with used up memory space. This also helps you in determining which folder is eating up memory and if it is unnecessary then you can remove it. If your files and folders are essential then use external hard drive to transfer these and free up the space. Another way is deleting downloaded files that are no longer required. For this, you need to look for Downloads in Finder and remove the unwanted files.

Remove Language Files

Mac gives you the option of using multiple languages. However, it is not as convenient as it sounds because often this becomes a memory hog. For this, you can remove unwanted languages that are not used by you. You need to use the option of Monolingual. This comes handy when you are out of options for increasing memory space.

These simple steps will help you increase memory space on your Mac without any complications. However, if you are keen on keeping your files and applications then the best way is to move them to external disk. This would free up the primary memory from your Mac while you will still be able to retain your data.
