Steps to Install Modular Kitchen Cabinets

Modular kitchens have become more of a standard kitchen consideration rather than a speck of style and décor. That said, most homemakers blindly and completely rely on manufacturers and installation companies to take care of all their installations. While this can certainly save you a lot of headache, which is again an acquired perception, it can burn a hole in your pocket. Considering a DIY (Do It Yourself) approach can be time and money saving to an extent that you may not have imagined. Read on to know how to do it.

Modular kitchens are becoming a common trend among homemakers as more and more homes are opting for a planned and organized cooking space. Kitchens being a vital part of homes need considerable thought and planning so as to ensure functionality, design and safety are at their optimum levels. Modular kitchens make kitchen planning easier through their numerous design plans based on the consumer’s choice of colors, designs, products and most importantly budget.

Earlier installations of modular kitchens called for professional expertise and homemakers had to shell out extra money to get the sets installed properly. Today, however, DIY installations of modular kitchen cabinets have become easier than ever before.

FYI: You may be needing a friend’s help to get you through the installation to ensure its done aptly and securely.

Steps to Install Modular Kitchen Cabinets

Following steps must be taken into account for installing modular kitchen cabinets.

Step 1:

Plan your space and measure it out completely. Remove all existing cabinets and the screws that fastened them to clear out all walls completely.

Step 2:

Get all materials required to install the cabinets such as screwdrivers, screws, shim for leveling, bolts, hinges and anything else that may be needed to install the cabinets. Read the modular cabinet instruction manual carefully to understand the requirements and create a list of tools needed to do the work without further disturbances.

Step 3:

Now that the room is cleared completely, paint the walls and change the flooring if need be. This will create a clean base to work on.

Step 4:

Begin with installing the upper cabinets. Assemble the cabinet walls and take the markings on the walls where they need to be installed. Use the stud finder and the leveler to ensure the alignment is right. Take your friend’s assistance to fix them up with screws such that they are fastened securely on the walls.

Step 5:

If your units are backed, ensure that you’ve made a place for the electrical outlets and plumbing hookups wherever needed.

Step 6:

Assemble and place the lower cabinets and check their levels to ensure that they are even. Shim wherever you observe the floor levels to be lower rather than trimming bases where floor levels are high.

Step 7:

Fasten the lower cabinets to the wall using screws.

Step 8:

Run a test fit of the countertop to check for the size and cut it out accordingly. Remember to make space for the sink. Once cut, fasten the countertop on top of the lower cabinets carefully using screws underneath ensuring the countertop doesn’t crack.

Step 9:

Place the sink inside the grove made on the countertop and begin caulking. Apply caulk all around the sink ensuring no space is left out for water to ooze out of its sides.

Step 10:

Once installed, place the remaining appliances such as the cook top and the chimney to complete the setup.
