Style guru: Jane Mayle

Everyone from Christy Turlington to Gwyneth Paltrow worships Jane Mayle—the owner of Manhattan’s hottest boutique who cuts her own hair, hates cell phones, and lives for anything vintage.

Jane Mayle is every fashion hipster’s dream. Her New York boutique, Mayle (242 Elizabeth Street), tucked away in a glamorous corner of Nolita, features her own line of chic, ultra-feminine clothing that literally flies off the shelves as fast as New York’s fashionably elite can grab it. “I try to design sexy but classic clothing,” says the sultry brunette. “I want women to feel confident and look amazing.”

Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, and Christy Turlington have made Mayle a regular stop on their search for that cutting edge, nobody-else-has-it outfit. This fall’s must-have? An ultrasuede dress.

Beauty essentials: Aesop Fabulous Face oil, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Benefit’s Renetint, Lancome’s Effacernes, and a little pot of Kohl and wooden baton (bought from a Lebanese store in Paris and also available at Mayle).

Skincare regime:
Facials from Mamie McDonald as regularly as possible. On a daily basis: Oil of Olay Foaming Face Wash, Origins Never a Dull Moment, Kiehl’s Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, and she always drinks 2 liters of water a day.

Haircuts: She cuts her own hair (recently took off four inches) and refuses to use a blow dryer or brush

Work Uniform: Something from the Mayle line paired with something vintage as an accent. Shoes must be durable and comfortable for walking in the garment district—flip flops in the summer, flat boots in the fall.

Willing to wait for: Having to wait is a turn off.

Jewelry: Several favorites, all layered one on top of another.

Shopping: flea markets

Car: the NYC subway

The phone: Recently broke…prefers a walkie-talkie

Exercise: Pilates, but walking up and down subway stairs is much cheaper.

Most recent celeb patrons: Liv Tyler, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kazu Makino

Favorite Mayle piece: Ultrasuede, backless, whipstitched, Tigerlily dress
