Swollen Feet and Lower Legs Causes Treatment


Swollen feet and lower legs can become a serious problem when there is no action taken to reduce the swelling. There are many reasons as to why feet and legs swell and you may or may not know why yours do. If you do know then it’s easier to remedy the problem, if not, hopefully you will by the time you’re finished reading this.

For those who aren’t sure, here are some of the most common causes of swollen feet and lower legs: poor circulation, standing/sitting for long periods, aging, overweight, too much salt in diet, lack of or no exercise, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy and injury. More serious ones are liver, kidney and heart failure.

If you have one or more of these issues then you may now understand why your legs and feet are swollen. Many times, all it takes is a few lifestyle changes to remedy swollen feet and lower legs; something as simple as eating a healthier diet combined with getting more exercise for instance will do the trick.

Now that you know some of the causes let’s get into some other ways, besides lifestyle changes, to remedy swollen feet and lower legs. You may have to spend a little money, but it will be money well spent. One of the easiest and best things you can do is invest in some quality compression stockings.

Don’t worry, no one has to know that you’re wearing compression socks or stockings since they look just like other socks. In fact, they now design them for every occasion you can think of from sports to formal wear, however, they do cost more than regular socks.

Another excellent way to reduce swelling in feet and legs is with massage. This can be done by a person or a foot leg massager machine, either one will do as long as massage treatments are consistent. Foot and leg massage combined with elevating legs and feet as often as possible can work wonders.

There are a couple of different types of leg massaging devices to choose from one is the shiatsu type massager that penetrates deep into muscle tissue. The other is the air compression leg massager sometimes referred to as air massage boots. Both improve circulation, so it’s mostly a matter of preference.

The best thing you can do is do one thing right now that you know will help swollen legs and feet. One might call it a doable goal and when you have accomplished one doable goal get to work on another one. Don’t wait for swollen feet and lower legs to worsen do something today.
