The Top Five Things that Break on Your iPhone

-

If you have an iPhone, and the chances that you do are great since they are the most popular phones out there, then you know the risk of breaking your phone. They are finicky, and often slippery, and even a small drop can result in a cracked screen or worse. Keep reading to learn about the top 5 breaks that you can do to your phone, and how you can fix them.

Broken Screen

The screen is the most likely thing to break on your phone. Let’s face it, the outside of these devices are made of glass, and glass breaks whenever there is a sudden impact. The good news is that you can get a replacement screen online for about $35. The bad news is, this is likely a low quality screen, and unless you know what you’re doing replacing a screen could take several hours and still result in a screen that doesn’t work.

Stuck Home Button

There are just 2 buttons on the iPhone. The power button and the home button. There is a good chance that “gunk” will get around the home button and make it so it sticks. Without your home button you really aren’t going to be able to navigate around your phone. Fortunately by opening up the device, and removing a couple of screws you can replace the home button. Of course one wrong little slip and you could short circuit other components of the phone.

Broken Charging Port

People trip over their phone cords all the time while they are charging. Often it results in a damaged cord, a pretty easy fix, but sometimes it damages the charging port. This is a little harder to fix. You can open up the phone and remove the old port, but along with that comes the headphone jack and speaker. You have a lot of reconnecting work ahead of you in order to get the phone back to working condition.

Replacing the Battery

This isn’t exactly something that you do to break your phone, but over time the batteries on our devices simply don’t hold a charge anymore. Apple has set up their phones so that you need to buy a new phone rather than a new battery. But for about $25 you can open up the rear panel and pull out the old battery and then install a new one. Keep in mind when you have the phone open there are a lot of components that you could damage. One little slip and you need a specialist to micro solder things back together.

Water Damage

Water damage can be the death of your phone. If you drop your phone in water, get it out quickly and turn it off. If you can open the device do so, if not you can get it dry. Now keep in mind that most people use a bag of rice to dry the phone. This works, but if you have access to silica gel that will work even better. Don’t use the phone for 24 to 48 hours if possible and you will likely be able to keep using it without problems.

Most fixes to the iPhone CAN be done at home. With special tools, lots of time, attention to detail, and a good instructional you can restore your phone back to like-new condition. Of course, what often will happen is that your phone will be broken further, and you will be out the money and time for the repair, plus the money to buy a new phone. Instead of trying to fix it yourself, leave that up to the cell phone repair specialists. You have the peace of mind that comes with quality craftsmanship, warranties, and you don’t have to mess with it.
