1. Bonalba Golf Club, Mutxamel

Situated beside the Playa de San Juan, and boasting some incredible sea views, Bonalba’s par 72 course features gentle ridges, wide fairways, undulating greens and cunningly located lakes. 2. Alenda Golf Club, Monforte del Cid

Basically, buying a property at Alenda, which has its own on site village complete with the prestigious ‘San Alberto’ school, means that you can dedicate your life to playing golf in a neighbourhood of likeminded golfing enthusiasts. For those who merely come to visit, there is an excellent kids’ club to keep your children entertained while you’re playing. The Alenda Restaurant is open seven days a week and has a wonderful outside terrace, and the gym offers group classes and personal training in addition to standard gym facilities. The golf school at the club has forty driving range stations, and an audiovisual room for computer swing analysis and as a location for theory classes. Courses are also available for individuals and groups of all ability levels.

3. Alicante Golf Club

On the outskirts of Alicante city, close to the Playa de San Juan, Alicante Golf Club’s modern, par 72 course features six par threes, six par fours and six par fives. Opened in 1998, Alicante Golf Club’s course comprises a gentle walk, with an elaborate ‘s’ shaped lake on the 9th hole. Private lessons are available for adults and children, in either English or Spanish. In addition, the club boasts a 70 bay driving range, chipping area, practice bunkers and a putting range.

4. El Saler Golf Club

Eighteen kilometres south of Valencia, towards Cullera, you will find the El Saler Golf Club. Of the top ten Golf World ranking courses, El Saler comes in as the second best golf course in Europe. Situated amongst the pine forests of Albufera National Park, the course features some outstanding fairways. The first twelve holes are played through pine groves, with the last six arranged in a link style through the sand dunes and along the picturesque coast. It is a course that demands a lot of focus and expertise, with the sixth hole widely acknowledged as the most challenging of the course. A number of Spanish Opens have been held at El Saler, and it is ranked 29th in the world. The club also features a 40 bay driving range, putting green, two chipping areas, two practice bunkers and classes, available in English, French or Spanish.

5. Bosque Golf and Country Club, Chiva

Located in Valencia, Bosque Golf and Country Club has been open since 1975. Its club house was reformed in 2003 and now contains a cafeteria, restaurant, Pros shop, conference room, TV room, play room and changing rooms featuring a Turkish bath and a sauna. The practice facilities include a capacity of forty bays at two different heights. Users have the choice of practicing on either natural grass or from a mat. Group classes, kids’ classes and private tutoring are available, as well as a clinic teaching theoretical basics, stroke types and a green putting tournament along with other clinic participants.

6. Mediterraneo Country Club

Situated between Valencia and Barcelona, Mediterraneo has been open since 1978. Set in a gorgeous valley, visitors with a handicap certificate are as welcome as members. The course plays to a maximum of 6,800 yards, and is surrounded by olive trees, pine trees and carob trees. This club, home to golfing champ Sergio Garcia, also features a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis courts and a gym, with changing rooms, showers and a sauna.

7. Escorpión Golf Club, Betera

The Escorpión Golf Club, near Valencia, offers tennis and ‘paddle’ as well as golf. There is a pool, gym, clubhouse, kids’ club and youth club, as well as the Restaurante Genuí Golf Escorpión. The restaurant is open six days a week, excluding Mondays. At weekends, it is necessary to book a table, and is open to the general public as well as members. The course itself features twenty seven holes, giving you a choice of three different rounds. There are a few water hazards, as well as some left and right facing dog’s-legs.
