Using Dropbox, Skydrive and Google Drive Together in Windows 8

Till today Cloud Storage is important and in my opinion no one should give up the free storage space offered by applications such as Box.net, SugarSyng, Google Drive, Dropbox and Skydrive.

As reviewed on several occasions, all these services offer limited space and slightly different characteristics, so you should subscribe to all and then use one or the other depending on your needs.

For example, Skydrive is essential for Windows 8, BitCasa is the best in streaming music and videos, Google Drive is great for streaming video from cell phones while Android Dropbox is perfect for storing pictures and photos taken automatically by the phone.

With the three most popular and used cloud storage, Google Drive, Skydrive and Dropbox, you can manage uploaded files online from a single application on Windows 8.  This is a very good and practical way to back up your files.

A free application named RainbowDrive is free.  It is also simple and easy to use and combines the use of SkyDrive cloud storages services, Dropbox and Google Drive together.  RainbowDrive has a modern user interface that resembles the Start screen of Windows 8.  Once launched, you can add the account of one of the cloud services from the right pane, providing authorization. For example, you can add Dropbox to see all the folders in Windows 8.

RainbowDrive organizes the folder view in order to split the files according to their type: Video, Pictures, Music, Office documents, and more.  Those used most recently appear in the middle section to be more handy.

The application also integrates with the user interface of Windows Media Player, which in turn allows you to watch streaming video and listen to audio files directly from cloud services.

If you open a video, it plays immediately, the music is played, always streaming, without having to download to your computer and the images can be viewed in full screen while you can browse photos using the arrows on your keyboard.

The navigation controls allow the player to play, pause or stop playback of the selected file, go to the next or previous file, change volume, manage playlists and change repetition mode.

To add another cloud service, for example, Skydrive, open the settings by moving the mouse on the right side of the screen with Rainbow Drive and open click on Cloud Management.  There you will see all the files and folders in SkyDrive and Dropbox together, as if these two services where one.

At the end you can also add Google Drive.  In Cloud mode, you can manage all the data separately from each other.  In this mode, you can display and organize the different accounts, see the total number of elements stored on each drive, create new folders, upload and download files and delete existing ones.  RainbowDrive can be downloaded by searching the Store for Windows 8 and it’s absolutely free.

A similar application, also for Windows 8, is Cumulation.  It provides access to SkyDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, SugarSync and Box all together from the same application and allows you to open streaming video files, listen to music, browse photos and download the files saved in cloud storage.  The only drawback is that it does not allow you to add data or modify existing files in the archives.
