We all know that healthy eating is the best way to get your heart in shape. Of course you have to combine that with exercise, but one step at a time. If you read enough healthy living literature, you will find that there are many people out there that claim the only way to make sure you have a healthy heart is to adopt a vegan lifestyle. There is a myth that if you eat any cholesterol foods then you will have high cholesterol. This couldnt be further from the truth.
Eat Fatty Fish
The term fatty fish doesnt necessarily mean that you are eating fish laden with fat (like catfish is). Instead, a fatty fish is one that is high in fatty acids that are essential for brain development, heart health, joint health, and much more. Recent studies suggest that these fish are good for your heart as well.
The evidence is not new actually. In fact the study that this is based off of was done back in 1997 that showed consuming adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids from fish will help to lower triglyceride levels by 25-30%. But now the FDA actually says eat more fish.
So which fish are fatty and good for your health? Here are a few of them:
Mackerel
Herring
Trout
Tuna
Salmon
That is not to say that eating other fish, like the mild tasting halibut or tilapia, is bad for you, but rather the fatty oils found in these other fish are going to do more for your heart health.
Skip the Medication
Some people will be unable to control their cholesterol levels without medication. There are conditions and genetic factors that show no matter how healthy the person eats, they simply cannot keep their cholesterol under control. These people account for a very small percentage of those who suffer from high cholesterol.
Rather than take a dangerous drug, like Lipitor, opt for healthy eating and exercise. You will be surprised that in just a few short weeks of eating right and exercising you will not only be healthier, but you will feel better and have more energy than ever before.
