What is the significance of Father’s Day?

-

Father’’s day is celebrated in most countries. It is a day to honor your father for all that he has done for you and to let him know how much you love him and value his presence in your life.

The concept of celebrating father’s day was introduced by Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. Sonara was the daughter of William Jackson Smart, a Civil War Veteran. After his wife died during childbirth, Smart raised his six children as a single parent. Sonora respected and loved her father for all his efforts and wanted him to know how special he was. She came with the idea of having a special day for thanking her father. Sonara got support from the local community and finally on June 19, 1910 the first father’s day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington. Since then father’s day is celebrated in most parts of the world on the third Sunday of June.

Father’s day is the day to celebrate fatherhood. Your father was there when you first opened your eyes in to this world, when you took your first step, when you cracked your first tooth, and so on and so forth. He was always there for you, to provide you with the love, care, and support that you wanted to move easily onto the next level in your life. Father’s day is the perfect day to say a big thank you to him for everything-for being a part of your life.

There are so many ways in which you can express your love and gratitude to your father on Father’s Day. You may send father’s day flowers to your father. Red Rose is the official flower for Father’s day. You may however send any other flower of your choice to express your feelings to your father. Carnations are another good option for Father’s Day. You can visit online flower shops to choose from a huge variety of fresh flowers in exquisite arrangements.

How about surprising your father with a gift? Though the traditional gift for Father’s Day is a necktie, you can gift gourmet gift baskets containing cookies, chocolates, and wines, your father’s favorite books, the latest electronic gadget that your father may have been thinking of buying, or any other gift, depending on your budget.

Buy simple, yet beautiful father’s day flowers or send an expensive gift, the choice is all yours how you celebrate father’s day and make it special for your father. The idea is to show your father how much you love him and care for him on Father’s Day.
