Where to Buy Moving Boxes

Cheap moving boxes are not difficult to find if you know where to look. Avoid buying boxes from moving companies like U-Haul because they have a tendency to mark up the price much higher than the market price. If you are on a budget and don’t want to spend a lot of money buying moving boxes, I suggest you check out the following places:

1. Check your neighborhood craigslist. Often times people will have used boxes that they don’t need and will be willing to sell at a low price. You might even find people willing to giveaway FREE boxes. You can also place an ad ad asking for moving boxes.

2. Check your local stationary or hardware stores (Office Depot, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Staples etc.) for moving boxes. Often times, they’ll sell in bulk so that it is cheaper.

3. Go to the supermarket (Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods etc.) or any grocery store and talk with the manager. Often times you can get apple boxes for FREE if you are persuasive. This is usually the way to go because you’ll be saving a lot of money and recycling as well.

4. I usually don’t condone dumpster diving, but in the case of finding boxes, it is completely acceptable. Look for stores that need a lot of boxes to have their products or produce delivered. Usually vegetable stores, shoe stores and computer stores are excellent places to start.

5. Walmart sells strong and durable banker boxes for a reasonable price. They also have different box sizes and will ship free if you purchase a certain amount.

6. If you do a quick search for moving boxes on Google, you’ll come across a handful of sites that offer their services. Some offer free shipping and will deliver the boxes within 1-2 business days. I would select this option if time is an issue and you don’t want to spend too much money.

Moving can be stressful and you don’t want your search for cheap moving boxes to become a nightmare. Ideally, you shouldn’t be spending any money getting moving boxes. If you take the time to find moving boxes you can get them without having to spend a dime.
