In order to protect the system from malware, viruses, and other potential online risks, it is essential that you choose to enable or install a Firewall on it. The article explains about configuring firewall on Windows 8 and providing you the steps to create exceptions for additional security.

Windows 8 and Firewall

You can never leave your system vulnerable to online threats. It is essential that you use reliable network protection or firewall to be precise. For enabling the protection, you need to install the program successfully on the system. Microsoft offers the opportunity to Windows users for installing the security software. Using the given program, you will be able to prevent unauthorized access and suspicious network infiltrating or communicating with the system. Once the essential step is complete, your system will no longer be able to communicate with any un-trusted software or system available on the internet. Any source that is a potential threat to the system will not be able to get through the Firewall.

The protective software by Microsoft helps in blocking harmful incoming traffic and keeps a vigilant check on outgoing traffic. It is all about the way it is configured that helps in establishing communication with the network flowing smoothly without any technical glitch.

Now after knowing the purpose of the protective software, you will first need to configure it on the system.

• When the desktop screen appears on the display, take your mouse to right corner at the bottom of the screen.
• Display options will appear from which you need to choose Settings
• In the Settings, choose the option of Control Panel
• When you reach the Control Panel window, you should select the System & Security category

A window of Allowed apps will appear with checkboxes against the features and apps that you can choose to allow for communication with the system. Checkmark or select the options that you want to allow. Your system will be able to establish communication without the hassle of protection wall software, trying to stop it.

If you would want to add more apps to it then choose the option of Allow another app. When you have finished selecting options, you can click ‘Ok’ to apply changes made.

Now that you have configured the system with the protection software wall, you can add exceptions to it for additional security.
