Do Calisthenics for Your Brain
An exercised brain is a mentally-conditioned brain. It functions far better after it has gone through some preliminary exercises rather than just diving into highly detail-oriented tasks. Since writing requires much attention to detail, you should first do a few calisthenics before you begin writing. Start by doing breathing exercises to oxygenate your brain. Take 30-minute leisure walks or jogs. Do yoga. These are some exercises that you can try to suppress writer’s block.

Create a Peaceful Writing Space
Set up a secure and comfortable writing space. The space should be in a relatively quiet spot with very little people or pet traffic. The basic items in your space should be a desk, desk chair, computer, and printer. Your business office would make the perfect writing space. However, if you’re working from home, be sure to create a similar area.

Pick a Topic that You Love
Unless you are personally given writing assignments, choose a topic that you enjoy talking about. If you enjoy talking about it, you’ll generally spend more time thinking and writing about it as well. Don’t think about whether or not there is an audience for it. Many people vouch for doing voice-recording to help with the writing process. Voice-recordings are non-prohibitive and are very relaxing. Afterwards, you can listen to each recording, transfer, and edit it. This is a great way to not only get your writing juices flowing, but also suppress writer’s block.

Set a Weekly Deadline
Setting weekly deadlines will more often ensure that you will stay busy on various writing projects. Doing this will be challenging because of the heavy emotional demands of writing. Complete all of the preliminary work such as creating your title, composing a synopsis, and finalizing your research. Walk Away from Writing Once in Awhile
Taking time off from writing once in awhile won’t hurt you, nor will it hurt your writing flow. In fact, not walking away can cause a mental breakdown, and eventually leave you feeling sluggish and uninspired. That said, don’t ever hesitate to take a week or two off from writing when you absolutely feel you need it.

Network With Other Writers
Joining up with other writers will help keep you motivated to write, but will also help you address issues that writers generally face on a regular basis. Attending meet-and-greets is a great way connect with other writers face-to-face. Local writer’s, clubs, and salons are great venues you can join, and attend monthly gatherings. You can also join writer’s organizations, and get on conference calls. Having a network of writers with whom you can get together will be a big help in overpowering writer’s block.
